If anything is implemented, I'll hunt Failname to Kingdom come. I think that's a good reason not to bother.

So...I recall being in the same legion as Failname a few months ago and hearing him talk about how he was auto-ranking like crazy at the time. Now feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you got this topic started because you did your time auto-ranking and now that you've had your fun, you've decided to slow down and end it for everyone else?

Now in regards to this topic, I thought it was a great call by Dan to nerf the purger mission the way he did as well. On nearly every form of trading there is, you could see many different high ranks buying EM in bulk, preparing to auto-rank off of it. Would have been god awful being a low-mid rank, so in regards to that I say yet again, good call Dan.

In regards to the actual topic on stopping auto-ranking. I think Failname had a fairly reasonable idea, where opposed to exp increasing by 40exp/rank forever to maybe a bonus 40/rank for every 500 ranks or so. Or in general just something that can balance experience needed with the amount of rescued prisoners people are obtaining at different ranks should suffice (if my added on suggestion is indeed reasonable to both the game and it's players), assuming that this is indeed a problem.

Now, all of this bs about halving people's energy bar on rank up, or essentially forcing people to only be able to rank once or twice a week just because you don't like auto-ranking yourself is terrible. If you look at the app and notice how many monthly users are still playing now compared to what it was a year ago, you will see why people quitting is a bad thing. The day something as drastic as some of these anti-auto ranking member's suggestions (in my opinion) might as well be the day the game disbands. Game over. We all lose.

Anyways, I'm neutral on the stance of auto-ranking in itself, as I have never done it and I understand both the pros and cons of it. I just don't want to see the game end over something silly like this and lose many good friends I've made in my time with this game.

A possibility of slowing down is creating a fixed amount of energy that can be given a day. Ie. 100k energy. This allows people to autorank still but caps them from doing so too many times a day. This of course would mean those with 50k+ energy bars would basically get 2 ranks and have to wait a day to play again, but given the option to obtain only a certain amount upon ranking, ie increments of 10k or a full bar, which can allow them to either dump it into their base and come back in a day or NPC for hours. The amount will need to scale to increase for higher ranks though or else eventually there will be complaints it is not enough to rank off NPCs.

Problem with this idea might be base attacks.... could hinder being able to hit energy consuming bases and do much else with your day on the game

Ok. There's definitely more balance needed here. We never intended there to be a way to have near-infinite amounts of energy. The amount of free refill could scale down at certain ranks.

Sorry... but I do not see how this is a "balance" issue. If someone can autorank they have lost other things early in the game to be able to do this.. ie they have worked for it. What is being suggested here is penalizing those over a certain rank instead of giving them content to continue growing in the game they love.

Well that is a blatant lie when Gp refills are they can buy as many of them as you want...

Well said, plus 100.

However... what I think he meant was not intended to have near infinite amounts of energy unless you PAY me for it. I propose those at rank 1000 (who have put hundreds into the game, and they have) have in fact also... already "paid" for it.

Errr please no. Changing any of the fundamental styles of play will cause a plumit in popularity. It would be like changing the damage cap forumular killing ssb. Lots of people work hard and lose all the work causing them to quit. Autorankers work hard to build the bar up to the point they can autorank and all their work would be removed.

Please work on the suggestions that have been suggested time and time again rather than trying to do something almost universaly unpopular.

Simplest solution to this entire issue.

Restore Troop Carriers and all the other NPCs they like for rank 2200's and up.

Then they will be happy-ish again, thus no major griping on the forum. Legion missions are there for some new content and they can always invent new goals for themselves (Look at Namalak and his insane base building or soloing horrendous NPCs, I myself at rank 114 set my own mini quests)

They can auto-rank to their hearts content and maybe have a feature where by rank 3K/4K the energy bar doubles/triples each rank up? No-one could moan, as they would have had 700 or so ranks of knowing it was going to happen.

Oh and for anyone who says I can't have an opinion as I am too low and can't auto-rank, well I can, I could do it at rank 80 ish and I see the pros and cons to both sides.

I'm not gonna sit read through all the 5 pages, but there's nothing bad with auto ranking if you can do it. Some people like the top legions probably do it when they take out big ass bases, so effectively, you'd probably just make them need more refills from somewhere. Auto ranking is mainly done by the people who have thought about doing it, and needing to do it so they can get a lot of stuff done in the time they have to get online.

So, either something will happen and more bases may survive due to lack of energy being refilled or missions wont be done as fast, etc etc
Or, things can stay the way they are where people should just be happy and not complain about how others are playing the game.

The same thing happened in another game I played. People complained a bit, it changed, but hardly anyone left and hardly anyone was really effected. There were only a few auto levelers in the game and the ones that were close to it didn't get affected too much either. Now like here its mostly based on a damage amount a player does and not how much energy they have. Yes, if you are lucky you can still pull an auto level if you know what you are doing and have the right setup, but it doesn't always happen and you can level around 3 or 4 times per day anyways in that game, which actually made it easier for more people to play better after they changed a few other things.

Bottom line: Grow up. There have been suggestions here that would still let you do what you wanted. We talked about having the free level up energy refill scale with level to prevent outright auto leveling. We also talked about raising the energy regen so that you could get a ton of energy per hour and do a lot of stuff with it. All you guys complaining say that you currently don't auto level, but can if you wanted to, so you just sit on your energy and don't use it anyways then. Look at how much energy you use per day and how many times you level. If you are leveling more then 5 times a day most likely you will be affected by something Dan does to stop auto leveling. If you only level once or twice a day most likely if he did change it like we have talked about you wouldn't even be affected, or if so you wouldn't feel it that much.

It would be nice if Dan did say how many levels he figured players should be getting per day or per week, that way we could see what he thought were good numbers, and how drastic any changes would affect people.

Right there, that is a contradictory statement.

I want to be able to auto-level in this game, however i wish to, i worked to get my ship to be able to do exactly that. I find it enjoyable to do so, and i get hours of enjoyment from this game on this fact, as do hundreds of players of this game. So anything implemented that prevents outright auto-leveling prevents hundreds from playing how they want to.

Now as to why people are complaining, when it doesn't effect them, its simple. There is a basic freedom in this game, wherein we can all play this game as we wish to. So when a "freedom" to do as we wish in this or any other game is taken away(just as in real life), especially when its something that players have earned, we all band together to show strength and support each other, as its only a matter of time before Dan figures, "hey if i can get away with this change, i can change this and that and this other thing too".

maybe, instead of scaling refills via levelups with the rank, the scaling should be based on how many times they already levelup that day? (on a 24 hours timer)

2% decrease per levelup

------
as for autoranking, i'm not opposed nor support it - well, slightly support :P
I like the refills feature, but as I want to grow in strength first, I always try to slow down my level up :)

Two considerations:

1) One can get a 4:1 Xp ratio from NPCing. I have 22k energy - to not level up from the automatic refill, I'd have to get about 10k or less. This would barely be enough to do daily missions, and more than one base a day would be out of the question. A base that was *at all* strong would be out of the question. A scan run would take days to recover from. Reducing the yield of an energy refill would cripple people's ability to participate in the game, and as people have said, you'd have players quitting in droves. Not idle threat quitting either - a real, substantial exodus from the game.

2) Many players have devoted tens of thousands of rank points to energy because it has been a strategic choice. Players like Mojo have forgone having big Attack and instead invested in energy, seeing other benefits. Capping refills basically screws those people over completely. Loads and loads of rank points completely wasted, as their energy bars will now never fill up. (Unless they pay). More reason to quit.

Regardless of whether auto ranking was 'intended,' it's part of the game now, and has been for multiple years. Any ham-fisted attempt to remove it will ripple out and ruin many, many other aspects of the game.

I would suggest that a better way to deal with this 'problem' is to include tasks in the game that aren't tied to energy or xp. If I'm devoting time to something that gives rewards (but not xp), my ranking is going to slow, but I'm still playing the game and enjoying myself.

PLEASE get out of this mindset that the only way to control the game is by punishing people and taking things away!! If you don't like where the game is headed, move the carrots so that we all go where you want us. As long as there's rewards, we'll merrily go down whichever path you choose. If you *take away* the carrots, we will leave.

first id like to say that if this does get implemented even though itll hardly effect me ill stay just to hunt down failname....

so ive been playing for close to 2 1/2 years now (i was hardly active for about 6 months i know) but anyway i have loved this game for years i slow ranked to rank 300 and had an amazing ship for my rank but i was getting bored of that so i switched to fast ranking. ive always been just consistently behind the new high ranked content so ive never had reason to complain (there was always something to do and by the time i reached the end of that something to do dan would release something new) but understand why the high rankscomplain and they have every right to. from what ive seen Dan has basically screwed them over many times and i am purposfully have stayed below them so that this doesnt effect me. i have the energy to autorank on npcs but i hardly ever use it for a combination of reasons (my friends understand why but i dont want to explain here) but the higher ranked i get the more see Dan has worked autoranking into this game. how else do you get a caelon? (for me it was dumb luck i admit) how else do you lock those insane to find holiday elites? hwo else would you lock the standard 700+elites? im not a high rank but lower ranks dont uderstand and without the high ranks complaining to get the game fixed it'll ruin GL for us all in the long run. while he prospect of them getting bored and all leaving does sound worthwhile (ill be on the leaderboards then!) telling them to quit the game ruins it for the rest of us eventually because if they dont complain high ranked content wont get fixed and if it doesn't get fixed then itll just become boring for me and all other mids eventually.

There is no solution to autoranking... the ppl that do it they have put in their time and money to make those planets and bases which rewards them with high arties/per hour..

Examples:

1. Mento (Srrys Mento) why would you take away his right to auto rank when he has worked hard to get where he is at..

2. Nam (Srrys Nam) same with him super good guy worked hard to get where he is at and this will take away his right for what he has worked so hard..

There is so many other in this category the list goes on...

They planed this for years they made it, and its their right to have it...I dont care about some snotty noobs and their useless opinions that they try to push here when they have no idea how this game really works for most of us that were here from the start..

my 2 cents..

Ok. There's definitely more balance needed here. We never intended there to be a way to have near-infinite amounts of energy. The amount of free refill could scale down at certain ranks.

totally agree, also 'if it aint broken dont fix it'. Being high rank or ranking fast already has its effects that discourage people from ranking fast, why punish and anger the masses who play this game and risk many ppl quitting to actually solve no problem (this suggestion is actually taking away fun from the game)

You guys do realize that Dan is have to make the game harder so it takes the auto levelers more time to find and get stuff? If he keeps that up then everyone will have to auto level to get the stuff. He told people he don't like auto leveling but they keep playing that way. Therefore he has to make the game hard enough so that they can't just walk through it. Consider it him moving the carrots by telling you guys he don't approve of it and that he might put caps on the energy gained on level up. If you keep up the way you play then more then likely he is going to have to put a cap on something to slow you few auto levelers down just so the rest of the people that play this game don't quit due to extreme energy demands and damage needed to take down stuff. You guys have time you could switch over to a power build instead of an energy build but I guess instead of thinking of a way to do things not auto leveling is too much to ask for some.

You guys say you need more energy, then come up with ideas where you can get more energy per hour then auto leveling! We have posted ideas about having more relays so at higher levels you would still have a ton of energy and be able to do things. You guys have ignored all the ideas and just keep flaming away rather then trying to come up with a solution were everyone would be happy, or at least somewhat satisfied. Put some facts and figures on the table. How much energy do you all use to do what you do in a day. If it is one legion taking out a few bases maybe you need to go back to look at base battles and realize that Dan has Battle Pacts for a reason. One legion shouldn't be taking out a higher level base.

Would you rather Dan decides on something that will make the game harder on all of us because of a few auto levelers? He could raise all the mission energy requirements and give very little exp to stop you guys, that would hurt everyone else even more. He could have tasks that require more energy and less exp, again that would hurt the average player even more. He could give out less exp for fighting NPCs, that again would hurt the average player more then the auto levelers. Anything he provides in content to keep you guys from auto leveling is going to hurt the average player more that doesn't auto level. He could end up scaling exp gained to your max energy levels, while that would work that wouldn't exactly be fair to you guys. I have tried to come up with a solution along with a few others where he would have a soft cap on Energy gained on a level up, and allow for more relays to be released to offer more energy per hour. this would allow everyone to have more energy to get things done, both the auto levelers and everyone else, it would allow more people to help out on stuff as they got to the higher levels and wouldn't mean that a few people in their legion had to auto level just to get their legion through something.

Your English sucks, and I broke down what an average high ranker spends per day several pages back, Along with valid counter arguments, You haven't brought anything new to table with your post your just repeating the same thing you were saying a few days ago.
