Post subject:  Research idea.

This is a simple idea I think people would like. Wouldn't it be nice if you could put in specifically how many points you wanted to spend on something? If you didn't want to put all of your points into one thing, you wouldn't have to. People could split what they wanted to research, and be a little more productive. Good idea?

i'm assuming the three of you are having trouble deciding exactly which one researchable item you want next?

Think of it this way...

You have three choices, each are 2000 points to complete...

Would you rather.... spend 1999 points on all 3 of them, and then 1 point on each of them to finish them all off at the same time?
(you would be getting them at point number 5998, 5999, and 6000)

Or... would you rather... spend 2000 on one, 2000 on the next, and 2000 on the last?
(you would be getting them at point number 2000, 4000, and 6000)


The research point spending is currently designed to optimize your spending so that you get items as fast as possible. If you chose Item B to put your points on instead of Item A, then obviously you must value Item B higher than Item A and want it before Item A, so all of your points are dumped into Item B until B is complete. (Note that it already will stop once an item is complete, then you can spend the remaining points elsewhere)

Ive suggested this before but Usually you want ot use all the research in one tier.

there's no benefit in changing the way it's currently working... in fact, to spread out your points would be to penalize yourself

Let's put it this way. You log on and have 30,000 research points.

You want to research attack, defense, and energy.

You put 10,000 points into attack, another 10,000 into defense, and the last 10,000 into energy, without spending them all on one topic at once. You could put as many, or as few research points into a topic that you wanted. Makes sense doesn't it?

it makes no sense because you're delaying your next completion on all 3 (and thus holding yourself back) because of your indecisiveness

but then you can decide if you want to delay the next tiers by yourself. like i said, i probably wont use it since i get 1,777 research an hour and my cap is 18k and i am putting it all into hulls

You'll very quickly get to the point where you'll need to put far more research points into something than you have. I wake up to have about 50k, and put them into something that needs 1.1Million. For the vast majority of the game, you'll have no need to split them up.

research not working like this.

to benefit a research you need to complete 100% of it.

50% of research complete = 0% advantages.

3 tier need 20 000 research point.
You have 30 000 point to spend.

If you put 10k on each, you have 0 benefit.
If you put 20k on one, 10k on other one, you have 1 benefit.

forget it Karl... if they wanna penalize themselves, fine, i say +1.... let them hold themselves back... it'll make pvp easier for the smart folks

I don't like this idea. Sure you can say well then don't use the feature but just creating it would take Dan's time that could be used on something much much much better.
