I'm not sure how any of the rest of you feel about this, but what if base combat was two ways? Or even an option for two way combat.
The one way combat works perfectly with the mechanics and ideas of the game, but would it be possible to fit two way combat in as well? I know this would probably require a lot of coding, but two way combat would make base combat way more intense. I currently have a decent idea of how this would work from previous games I've played in the past.
I have a pretty good idea as to how this would happen. Say two near evenly matched bases get into a heated discussion about something like a planet or member from one attacking the other way too many times. Instead of one of the legions getting mad and going all out on the members of the other legion, they could simply declare war against the other legion, duking out their problems. The only stakes I can think of would be having each legion wage x amount of resources. Legion owners would have the ability to set the rule for this, just like every other base attribute, (though I think only legion officers and owners should be able to declare war) about who can declare war.
To go more in depth of how the mechanics of this would work, I have thought of how time frames for this would work. First off, when one legion declares war on another, the other legion has 2-3 hours to respond the war declaration, either yes or no. If needed, this time period can be moved up to 24 hours and 3/4 or 2/3 of all officers of both legions needs to agree to the war. Next would be a short period for each legion to prepare, like setting up guards for the legion base, preparing their ships (Changing from energy based to defense or offense based modules) and the like. After that, the war would start, and each legion would have 1-2 days to disable the other base, or potentially as long as it takes to establish a diplomacy or disable the other base. If each both legions are able to sort it out and don't want to continue the war, the could establish a pact, different from a NAP, and costing much much much more then a NAP.
I have thought up an interesting idea of how this would work. Both legions could set up guards for their base, such as 5 or 10 players. This part of the base would also be controlled by the legion owners, and set who can guard the base, with options such as Owner/Officer/rank x. In order for any damage to be done to the legion base, all the guards must be taken out, or an extra attack option could be made available during said base wars, which use cloak and sensor stats as a modifier, would allow an attacking ship to use an option to conduct a sneak attack to the legion base. All stats by the ships guarding the base would contribute towards the legion base during a war. It could also be added that all non-disabled modules of a disabled guard would contribute towards the legion bases' stats. This essentially is a little bit more advanced version of current base combat.
After a legion base is disabled, it would be open for raids. Though the only resource that seems feasible for raids would be for credits to be stolen. (As I was typing this I thought of this Base wars could be as long as a week and who ever disables the other legion's base the most would win)
I know that this isn't clearly stated or as worked out as it could be. I just thought it would be an interesting idea and wanted so input or suggestions to help improve it.
