New research tree for ship modules and planet structures. This research tree allows you to build modules on your ship that don't provide a direct bonus to attack, defense, scan, cloak, hull, shields, etc. However, instead this research tree acknowledges that your ship has a crew on-board and that they can't possibly work 24/7 (unless there all androids and in my case that is nearly true). Therefore, you will be able to research modules (for a lack of a better term) that will provide your crew with a medical bay, observation deck, holo deck, or how about a bar. Basically this research tree provides human/alien (sentient lifeform) needs. Now the second part is how this helps you, the captain. Well, there could be some modules such as a android factory and/or nursery that over a period of time generates a crew member adding to your ship's population thus to your ship's bonuses. Furthermore, when your crew is happy they work harder. Therefore, modules that provide entertainment can either provide a percent bonus based on the module's level (mark 1-3/4) or based on the number of crew (this would greatly benefit higher ranked players over lower ranked ones). Modules such as training facilities, flight simulators, or shooting ranges can provide your crew with the knowledge and skills needed to make your weapons and defense systems more effective. Modules such as a medical bay really wouldn't have much of a use now unless there was a risk of losing crew members during battles with ships, npcs, or planets and the medical bay prevents their death. If that were to be the case I would recommend it to be the first part of the research tree. This research tree would work much the same when researching shields, weapons, and cloaking for your ship but at certain advancements provide planetary structures. A happy population provides a higher bonus; however, if this bonus where to provide a percent based on population then it would be an incentive to add more population structures. I'm sure this could be greatly improved but I'm also sure you get the idea. Hope the community likes it. |

I like the idea for doing this on ships. But lets leave the planet part of the idea out of it for now. |
