Right now the Ship's Log is a mismatch of everything that happens to you making it almost useless to find something. You might miss your traps being set off because NPC alerts moved it off the screen. You might miss your planet being taken because you legion alerted to many players/planets.

I would suggest the following filters:
NPCs: NPC shares and loot would go there.
Base: Alerts when you lock a base, your base is locked and silver badges would go here.
Defense: Your planets being attacked, your ship traps being set off, being disabled and anything else against your ship would go here.
Attack: PvP alerts to you having set off someone's trap would go here.
Legion: Planet shares and alerted players would go here.
Trade: What you sent to who and what you got from who would go here.

I think this includes most of the filters that would help people actually get useful data from their Ship's Log.

I would find this incredibly helpful.

Many a time i have been in a war or something similar, and have untold pages of artifact effects and traps. It makes it really hard to actually work out what is going on at any time.

The ability to filter to the things i want to see would be very handy.

The only other thing i would suggest is a Comm filter as well, for seperating conversations as well.
