So, you know how ship damage caps get bigger as you get bigger, why doesn't the same happen for planets?

Very Tiny: 10
Tiny: 12
Very Small: 15
Small: 18
Average: 20
Large: 22
Very Large: 25
Massive: 28
Very Massive: 30
Colossal: 32
Mega Colossal: 35

This would make small planets easier to defend, as they have less room to place defences.

Sweet, it'll be easier to keep the planets you don't want and harder to keep the planets you do.

From the defender's perspective this is not good, so I'm saying -1.

i agree with that i have a load of rubbish planets i dont want but noone will take them (not even the one that has been scanned by over 20 others)
this would just make it harder to get rid of them without having to spend to abandon

This is one side of the coin, you are talking about making it easier to keep planets.
This would suck when trying to take planets.

smaller ships take less dmg because it's "harder to hit"
What's the excuse on smaller planet? even the smallest planet would be really big compared to a ship, and kinda hard to miss...
This defeats the "real logic" support of this suggestion

And yeah... by all intents and purposes, I think many have already voiced their opnion in term of "game play logics" and I agree with them...
so sorry, but -1.
