like half an hour ago unique life forms appeared on one of my planets, one of my GAS planets life cannot exist on gas planets and no moons have yet to be discovered on the planet. Logic problem with planetary abilities? |

Phire Ant wrote: "Some scientists, however, conjecture that organic chemicals in Jupiter’s atmosphere could have reacted and eventually produced aerial, floating life forms in the lower atmosphere." but you need a liquid, as a melting pot for the chemicals to dissolve in and mix together. |

From "Universe Today" mag.........."Jupiter's core is thought to be surrounded by a layer of liquid metallic hydrogen and helium". |

Logic problem with planetary abilities? Most Earth based life forms wouldnt fair to well, except for extremophiles which prefer conditions on earth a few decades ago we would of wrote off as "inhospitable/incompatible with life" Quote reference "Recent research carried out on extremophiles in Japan involved a variety of bacteria including Escherichia coli and Paracoccus denitrificans being subject to conditions of extreme gravity. The bacteria were cultivated while being rotated in an ultracentrifuge at high speeds corresponding to 403,627 times "g" (the normal accelaration due to gravity). Paracoccus denitrificans was one of the bacteria which displayed not only survival but also robust cellular growth under these conditions of hyperaccelaration which are usually found only in cosmic environments, such as on very massive stars or in the shock waves of supernovas. Analysis showed that the small size of prokaryotic cells is essential for successful growth under hypergravity." I cant see why life couldnt of started in a different environment completely and worked its way up from there ... at worst, it DOES say "Unique"! |

In the 2001 Space Odyssey series Clarke explored the idea of Jupiter itself having lifeforms so no I don't think this is an impossible event to find. |

its not really that shocking. i mean if you know that elements condense under pressure, ergo, if enough pressure is applied, the gas planet will have a liquid center and if even more pressure was added perhaps a solid center. which something could start up inside of the liquid portion and then evolve to air sack like species that float around eating small amonia or feeding off of gas. so it makes sense. |

it doesn't even to be native to the planet, for all intent and purposes, it could be some life form that just able to survive on the gas planet and somehow moved there(maybe a transport ship with them on crushed on the planet) |

yea true, lol we may have a starship troopers reference there too, where an animal shoots spores into space and they land some where and populate the planet. |

Dan has also said that there are still bugs and that some planets should not be getting certain events, not sure if this is one of them but might be worth shooting him a message about. |

its a science fiction game. i could be something living in a layer thought previously not to harbour life. if could be a creature living in the water vapour cloud layer of a gas giant. I personally like the idea of these planet events. The human race is finding new species of life on our own planet every year - the easiest place to find them is your own back garden. In a game of science fiction where you already have laien races and terraforming on planetary scales why not be able to discover some on gas planets and for that matter toxic/irradiated/barren planets? |
