Post subject:  Guarding Ships?!

Would be nice if you could guard a fellow legion mates ship while they are offline so you can protect them, just like guarding planets?!

So... Your legion mate fluxjacks a 17x plasma from PlayerZ and your legion takes turns guarding him. So PlayerZ has to go through half your legion just to get to the thief. Exactly how is this going to end well?

Thinking out loud is great. The kernel of an idea can oft times lead to a really good discussion that expands into a reasonably well developed suggestion. I was just getting it in there before the flood of +1s from people that don't take the time to think of all the angles. ;)

This could work, except a few things need to happen.
I think whenever you are guarding another legion, you can only be guarded by people who are weaker than you.
The guardians of the ship would have nerfed stats, like half attack etc.
You can also go straight to the person being guarded but the attack and defense of the people being guarded is buffed depending on the attack and defense of the guardians.

^ does that make any sense to you?

If a person cannot protect their own ship, make it stronger.
If a person has pissed off a legion is getting beaten on, deal with it or wait 24 hours and Halc/CalmAmp (48 hours and you're off their comm).

@ExSeaD's version: So, a person with 14999 A/D can defend a person with 15000 A/D? Also, trying to deal with nerfed stats or buffed stats is just a mess to deal with.

eehhhh or it should be made so u can only get a guard every 24 hours (with a limit of 1) and if so ur guardians traps are rendered useless and he cant repair ?? how douse that sound :mrgreen:

but keep in mind there are some real jerks out there that enjoy picking on ppl way lower rank then themselves this way we can help if a player is getting bullied of course this opens the door to ppl hitting and hiding like punks so a good counter measure would be to be unable to have a gardian if u have preformed any offensive actions

How about if a ship has been disabled twice in 24 hours, it unlocks the ability to be guarded. Then up to 5 legion members can guard the target ship.

Still not good ...

If a person is being "bullied", they should stop fighting back, after 24 hours use a halcyon trap and calming amplifier, then after 48 hours the other person will not have direct access to them except by BT. If the person is getting targeted via the BT, then there's really nothing other than halcyon and calming amps. Most of the time, if a ship has 3/5/5 actions and 4 traps, they'll get skipped. If the person is PvP'ing and complaining about being constantly hit, them PvP'ing is asking for a badge back, which is justified ...

See the other comments about guarding, even just one guard and you can get a super ship ... and the thing is, why do you need it? If your ship is not strong enough to defend against an attacker, see the above statements. Otherwise, this does absolutely nothing at all.

I gotta agree with this due to the fact that a rank 600 can beat on people rank 360+ and still get badges from them. but i think the guarding aspect how ever realistic it maybe... is also OP. I suggest an increase on the badge % (and before the 12 people who are rank 900+ QQ) if the cap was at 70% 900s can still badge people rank 630+. what rank 900 needs to be badging people rank 540-630? >.> if they need to find people that low rank.... improve your own ship and hunt prey your size... :roll:

But then the strongest in the legion can't be guarded by anyone.

My idea is a limit on the number of ships that can guard a legion mate, and that it can be any other ship in the legion.

Another idea. If someone has a high enough rank score, their stats (for the purpose of guarding only) be reduced to a lower percentage, and any buffs they have on don't contribute to them guarding the other player.

Question to all that support this idea:

Why do you need this?

Note that an acceptable answer is not "Because a rank xyz could beat on a rank lower than xyz" (see the halcyon/calming amp comments I've made for why).

Edit: I ask because it seems like the people that are arguing for this topic are people who are being disabled by higher ranked ships or they are simply arguing for it just for the sake of arguing for it. I've not once heard anything along the lines of "This will help because ..." with a legitimate reason attached to it.

Originally this was my idea! i did just say i was just thinking out loud, also saw valid points to why this would not work and was hoping this thread would just die out i guess not!
I am however now against this idea -1 to my thinking out loud. :idea:

It has prolly been said...but player bob makes 2 accounts and then just uses them to guard each other, or more then 2...how is it fair to the legit user who has only one.
