Not sure if someone has already said something similar to this, But i think it would be a good idea to be able to name your ship. I got this idea while reading Xzien FanFic http://galaxylegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14434

And so my idea is to be able to basically give a name to your ship.

I mean in the whole GL galaxy there are thousands of players and out of those thousands of players there are hundreds of people that have chosen the same race as you, meaning they have the same looking ship, so there is really no uniqueness for each players ship, well at an early rank you may be a bit different from the next guy you decide to kill on the BT, eventually every1 will end up with the same weapons, same reactors, same scanners etc.

So the idea is to be able to name your ship, and give it a bit of uniqueness, in which your ship name will be able to easily tell the difference from the next Konqul you meet on the BT.

There would be limitations on this, like the maximum amount of characters could be like 15, you can only use letters a - z, numbers 1-9, and you cannot have 2 ship names that are the same in your legion.

Any opinions on this idea is appreciated.

Isn't that kinda what your in-game name is? It's what distinguishes you from everyone else....

Although you have a point, I think of in-game name as the name of the Captain of the ship.

Yea, In-game name is more of the name of your character, and the name people call you. A ship name would be the name of the vessel you command, would be similar to the names of Titanic or Queen Mary.

Yeah, I get all that... If you have a captain name AND a ship name, that's just one more bit of data that needs tracked in the database. Not sure if its really worth the time and trouble to add in, track and display just for the "coolness factor." Ya know?

if you name your ship "Titanic" than guy named IceBerg will sank you every day

Its *sink*, sank is past tense, it hasn't happened yet. Just had to point it out.

As for the idea, I see the coolness, but it would be yet another thing to keep track of, which makes it's disadvantages tower over any advantages.

lol, I suggested this before. Funny how that works.

Maybe ship customization would be a bit better for individuality, colours, logos, maybe little pictures showing what mods are where....

I love how the higher level players roll their eyes at a suggestion made by a lower than thou player ... but yea, it was
suggested several times, and other players actually posted up what the would call their ship.

It would be neat to see when you click on the "Ship" tab as a header above "Ship Crew and Size".
