Variation on unpopular idea

I understand people being against deaths being removed. However, I do feel that it is somewhat unfair the way it is currently tracked. Could we have kills split into "Deaths by Equals"(Within badge range) and "Total Deaths"? I don't see why, if you get killed by someone 5x+ your rank, it shows up the same as a kill by someone 5 ranks lower. It has no meaning if people looking at the stat cannot tell if the "Deaths by players" are from people around your rank or from rank 1000+.

by "total death" u mean death by player, right?
Yeah, this would be a more realistic representation of one's strength. As long as the current record of death by player is also kept, because that could be useful otherwise~(for example, usually... one who get disabled by ppl of significant higher rank is... well.. a *beep* hole themselves, ppl usually don't alert others for no reason and usually you can only death-by-giants via alerts)

Having the majority of my deaths from those out of badging range, I would like to support this, but the deaths stat is not that important. If you PvP enough to get alerts (even from just badges), chances are that having even 90% of your deaths made up from those with ranks that are multiples of yours - which is about the percentage of my deaths from out of badge range - won't change your combat reputation or make a large enough difference to cause your combat reputation or your likelihood to be attacked changed.

meh. I'm not saying this necessarily from my point of view, I'm saying in general, it would be nice. For example, if someones a great pvper and gets alerted to a legion with rank 1ks who 0 his 45 actions, he can go from 400 kills/40 deaths to 400 kills/85 deaths. First, this is somewhat unfair to the player, second, unfair to people his rank who see "oh, he died 85 times, he can't be too hard to kill" and then finding differently after wasting 5-100 energy. And yes, I know, people shouldn't use deaths to assume that...but they often do.

If they continue after that, it would be fair to say that they will likely continue until you hit 0. Do some missions that don't require you to repair, go into an energy build.

eh. I understand the alternatives, but again, I feel that there should be some difference between the way kills are shown if they are out of badge range. One issue is that your alternative may work for the player- but not for others viewing him. If he doesn't mind looking not so amazing, it can still cause issues for people thinking hes not invincible. Again, we are talking in general...not about me. (For the record, 100% of my 1 disables came from someone 7x my rank :s)

(For the record, 100% of my 1 disables came from someone 7x my rank :s) You must be a very slow ranker, run a lot of cloak, or be a SSB. I've had people use so much in attempts to disable me it's really not quite funny. I've got 3 disables that didn't come from higher-ranked multiaccounts or people between 4-25x my rank (relative to the time that the disable occurred). Like I said though, I can understand where you're coming from, but I just feel that if you continue to constantly be disabled in circumstances you absolutely cannot keep from being disabled in, just stay down. I don't know how many people use solely combat rep to judge to kill people - anyone intelligent looks at what is on the ship.

honestly, i like the deaths by players stat the way it is... to me, it dosnt matter who disabled you, just that youre disabled. I usually dont look at this stat when i'm attacking, i just look at the action counters. but i look at it when i'm either looking at my ship, or comparing to some higher level legionmates. the stat dosnt really need changing... unless youve died several hundred times. which, at that point i dont think it really matters. besides, i dont think the game keeps track of WHO killed you, just that you died... so i cant really say i support this idea. -1

I say throw it out and put a KDR in, but I like this too, I would be insane right now if I doidn't get destroyed by higher ranks when I was much lower

This sounds like a fair idea and would probably demotivate people who like to gang up on lower rankers. For instance Legions that alert people for no other reason than to cause mayhem.

well... tbh, i feel that kills should also be seperated like this too~ or maybe even 3 types(badge, badgeless but peer, non-peer) would give a more acurate representation of one's pvp ability

I like it. I usually get killed by ppl in badge range, and never been killed more than 300 ranks higher, but still +1
