Based off of the base coliseum idea (
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19983 ), what would happen is you enter into a 'warzone' or 'coliseum'. it costs maybe 500,000 credits to enter your base. What then happens is ships from your legion enter in. 200,000 credits a ship. Then, you are randomly paired with a different legion, and their forces. Its then an all out base battle to fight to the death. Each player entering the games receives 3 'warzone' tri matrixes per match. These would restore all energy, hull, and shields but only when involved in a warzone match. These are untradeable, but do remain in the cargo if the player does not use all of them. All players who enter this game type receive an automatic refill of energy, hull, and shield to the max.
Anyway, ships can target either the enemy legion ships, or the enemy base. All ships entered in warzone will be targetable by the enemy team. The match ends when the enemy base is destroyed. Badges will be awarded based on the number of ship kills, and the damage done to the base. The winnings will be given to the winning base. For each ship disable, the player will receive 'Warrior Badges', for base damage badges, the player will receive 'Champion Badges'. If the base is disabled, every player who participated regardless of their position on base damage will receive a 'Victory Badge'.
Now, external artifacts CAN be used in this 'warzone' gametype. however, players cannot use calming amps OR traps of any kind. Debuffs, buffs, and cages can be used, but they must be brought by the player. Normal energy cubes and trimatrixes can be used, but again, they must be brought externally.
Players receive a negative xp and energy penalty if they try to participate in outside action while in 'warzone' ie, doing missions (-50% xp penalty and double energy cost), npcing (again, -50% xp penalty and double energy cost), or pvping from the battle tab (same penalties apply).
Warzone is not the same as a base battle, and will not affect the base battle timer. Warzone can be participated in on a global clock twice a day. This means that it would be available say, at noon and midnight for whatever dan's timezone is, and the clock would count down from there for everyone no matter their time of day (it could happen at 4 am and pm, or 10 am and pm, or any variation of time based on where you live.)
Player kills and disables would be recorded in a different stat, specifically for warzone games, and would be counted as warzone kills, warzone disables, warzone victories, and warzone losses. Bases disabled would not remove the base defender bonus on the loser's base, but the victor would get double their base defender bonus at the end. This would last for 1 week. If they win again, the clock is reset to 1 week. if their base is disabled outside warzone, then their bonus would still be doubled, but their base would still count up from 0%.
To match players fairly, bases will be matched with bases similar to their warzone disable count. So, in other words, bases will all be random at the start. The dysonians may get paired up with a 1 man legion. But, as time goes on, eventually legions will start being matched with similar legions in their 'weight class', so the dysonians may end up fighting The Dominion, or any other legion with similar base stats. Even other members of the triumverate.
Also, no help will be able to be given during these base battles. It will be strictly legion vs legion. And, if no bases are disabled during the course of the 12 hour base battle, then the legion with the most damage done overall will be crowned victor. This includes both ship damage, AND base damage. So if a player isnt doing very well against the base, then they can go after the other ships that are entered into 'warzone'.
Players will be hackable and raidable, but instead of giving the player mineral, artifact, or research, the players will get energy. Not the enemy ship's energy, but energy out of thin air to be used on the base. Tactical Inner Bypasses may be used, but since the players will most likely be online, it will at most only stall them. No red, yellow, or blue badges will be awarded while participating in warzone. Even off of the bt.
While this may cause server lag, i cannot think of any other fair way to do it, other than staggering 'weight classes' of legions as this further draws on. So in other words, after the first round, players that got disabled will have their timer pushed back an hour. After that, players who lost the second round AND the first round will get pushed back an hour. and it will continue from there until 11 weight classes are assigned.
Legions can move up a weight class, and also be bumped down a weight class. While this means legions will be constantly battling the same people, many legions will be in limbo so to speak drifting in and out of two weight classes.
I feel this would be even more beneficial than the current base system, and actually give players a chance to have 'unofficial wars' between legions and see if this would actually be a good system to implement in the future (a war system i mean).
What i was thinking for battle market rewards would be 'warzone trimatrixes' and other disposable artifacts for warrior badges, some modules and buildings maybe for champion badges, and base modules and artifacts for victory badges.
Bases can be raided in warzone, but they will yield the same rewards as they would in a normal base battle.
