molecular rearranger : can switch the productions of a planet 1 time , randomly

ex :
x1 mining , x2 arti , x3 res
<use molecular rearranger>
x2 mining , x3 arti , x1 res
or
x2 mining , x1 arti , x3 res
or
x1 mining , x3 arti , x2 res
or
x3 mining , x2 arti , x1 res
or
x3 mining , x1 arti , x2 res

What if it's mega-rich in one resource, but doesn't have the others, you use this, and end up with abundant everything?

just replace the numbers in formula above with a blank

a x2 res gas could become a x2 mining gas

a missing resource is just that resource at an availability of -100%.. so it has a multiplier of 0
it's just like every other availability level... extremely sparse is -75%.. that's a multiplier of 0.25...
(0x) Mega Rich is an availability of +200%... that's a multiplier if 3...

Yeah, I was seeing it like this: No resource is 0 points, extremely sparse is 1, and so on. If 2x Mega rich is 12, and the other two are zero, it's possible that the planet would end up with 4 in each = abundant

that was not the intended use of my suggested artifact

let's say you have a volcanic planet with these stats :

mineral very rich , artifact sparse

now let's say we use the molecular rearranger on this planet . these are it's possible stats :

mineral very rich , research sparse
artifact very rich research sparse
mineral sparse , artifact very rich
mineral sparse , research very rich
artifact sparse , research very rich

would this be random? or would i choose what goes down? and can i use it multiple times on a planet if i get to decide what it gives? and is it possible to make a resource go beyond the 15x hard limit for terraformers?

it's random like spinning it on a wheel

since there is nothing being added , the limit is not factor

all it does it switch around the resource gains

so what youre saying is it CAN go past the 15x limit? the reason i asked is i was contemplating using this to make extraordinary planets. Say you start out with a normal planet... or even a potential plasma. I could use a resource raising ability to jack up the gas planet to 15x megarich in any resource. i then could use this. even if i just rearranged a planet once, i could then reenrich a planet back up to 15x, and have bonus resources for my other 2 resources. If its capped at 15x, i then use until all the resources are 15x, and then turn it into a plasma. If its not capped at 15x, i can potentially have an infinitely rich planet if i use this enough times... and when i get bored turn it into a colossal plasma.

now, i'm not saying this is a bad thing. i'm wholeheartedly for allowing planets to be enriched past 15x... i dont see why we cant do that now anyway. but i'm not sure dan would like us to be able to do that, since for some reason he's against players enriching planets past 15x...

He's saying the abundances of the planets swap randomly - not that they are all chopped into their 25% bits and then rearranged.

Example: If the highest stat is 5x MR and the lowest is Sparse, after it ends the highest will still be 5x MR (possibly on a different resource than at the start), and the lowest will still be Sparse (possibly on a different resource than at the start).

ah. i did not catch that. i can see where that would be useful... but it makes my argument irrelevant. :P thnx for explaining that rigor.

EDIT: although in that sense, if i was a resource race i could still make multiple 15x mining/artifact/research worlds... i just need to use them until i have both resources 15x that are not related to my race. ie, if i was taltherian, i could raise artifact to 15x, use this and say, get research 15x, reraise artifact to 15x, use this again until mining and research are 15x, and then raise artifact to 15x once more, yielding a 15x across the board planet.

even better.... enumeration crystals... bring arty to 20x... rearrange, bring arty to 20x again... rearrange again, bring arty to 20x again... you now have a 20x all planet... (and if this is done prior to planet-transforming artifacts........ well... you see)

Oh, change the availibilities, but keep the values the same?! Whoops, I misunderstood
