If we can "lift stars" of their resources, why can't we be advanced enough build ringworlds as their own "planets?" (They are "planets" for all intents and purposes save for only the shape.) There can be a mini-event that releases a certain number of ringworlds already created by an ancient race. Then, we gather the tech & expertise through new missions to build our own. (It should be no small effort; may need to take an entire legion to build one, but would be incredibly prestigious to have.) As expected, Ringworlds would have their own built-in bonuses. So, what do you say about having Ringworlds on GL, fellow Halo fans? |

I would like to see planets that takes legion effort to build.... But I'm not entirely sure if it would be a good idea to make too direct of a reference to another game.... there is a thing called copy right and trade mark. |

FYI: The Ringworld/HALO is not an original concept of Bungie Interactive. Ringworlds came from Larry Niven. We already have Dyson Spheres; it's a concept of Freeman Dyson. If Freeman Dyson's estate doesn't mind the use of his concept on GL, then why would Larry Niven's? If it's too much trouble anyway, call them "Divine Bracelets." |

Freeman is a scientist, and possibly proposed the sphere in a scientific fashion, thus the concept was never copy righted On the other hand, Larry is a writer, and the concept he propose is possibly copy righted. Just because something isn't orginal doesn't mean it's not under copy right protection, maybe Bungie paid Larry for the right to use the concept, who knows. Ringworld concept is also made 10 years after that of dyson, I'm not really sure what the status of limition on copy rights are for stuff like these. Ofc, dan can always call someone or some place to check out if it would be a violation of copy right or trade mark before making this thing, but why go through that trouble at all? He could very well avoided it altogether. If you can, however, provide evidence that ringworld is not copy righted, then I will stop opposing it~ |

A guide to Fair Use and Copyright laws. That being said, Ringworlds have been brought up for discussion around here a number of times. Do a search for Ringworld and Halo, and you'll find them if you're interested. |

And now, what about trade mark? Just in case. And I think part of the "fair use" section is BS. There is no possible way to gurantee a 0 impact on a product if a paradoy or critcal comment of a work is made. in fact it would be statistcially difficult to make news report make no impact on the product. It would be better if it runs on a "within a certain % margin impact" rule instead(or perhaps the video simplified it?) |

Since GL isn't a non-profit, I don't think Dan would be able to use Fair Use as a shield, anyways. Just laying the information out there. |

IF we every get the ability to create our own planets I DEMAND the ability to change my race to transdimensional mice, and I a computer on my planet to contemplate the ultimate question. |

Just remember to call them "Divine Bracelets" or "Loopitats" (loop habitats) if you can't use the term "Ringworld" here. |

How are the devs coming along with making such bracelets? A sub-suggestion (suggestion of one) --> Perhaps something to release for St. Patrick's, and the commemorative St. Patrick's rings can be green with a +#% luck factor (more likely to find more desirable planets and artifacts, etc.) Some of the jewelry we wear for St. Patrick's would be green bracelets, so this would fit right in! |

Follow-up: Did we have ANYTHING for St. Patrick's? How are the devs with Ringworlds so far? |

So the ringworlds / "divine bracelets" are on their way aren't they? |

If it's because Larry Niven's estate would have issues with us using his concept, why wouldn't Freeman Dyson's estate have issues with us using Dyson Spheres as one of our planet types? We already have Dyson Spheres, so Ringworlds really shouldn't be a problem. And remember to rename ringworlds to "Galactic Bracelets" (or even "Divine Bracelets") if it still is anyhow. And did I mention that to build a ringworld could be part of a mission's (or string of missions') effort? |

Considering that a Ring world (at its very core) is simply the equator of a dyson sphere, and that we already have Dyson's we could have Ringworld-inspired habitats. Although ideally it would be Dyson sphere's that should be "legion built" whereas ringworlds would have been the result of the mission chain (as they are much easier to build, than a colossal sphere totally encompassing a sun, with a shell that's absolutely massive. |
