I like this idea, I had though of somthing myself, but didn't think to post it. There are two reasons it would be good for:
1. Slow rankers that want to complete a mission without ranking up.
2. People who want to kill a boss/elite npc withour ranking up - get more powerful for your rank due to npc drops.
3. People who don't want to rank up, for any other reason.

Exactly, I want to do the Kronyn chain, but dont want to rank up :/

from what i've heard, u can do that anyway if u just reset after unlocking the races

Not sure if that's true thou... never tested it myself. But if it is, that's a MUCH easier way to go about it....


The real problem is uber tiny builds.... they are very harmful to the newbie populace

I think the answer to that issue was if you are a special race and you reset, but don't actually go through the process of choosing race etc. (so your account is stuck on the "Choose your race" portion), then you appear as a Level 1 of whatever you were.

So basically it's only there to make people go "WTF?", and you'll only have the 6 basic starter races if you actually play. In order to get past that 1st rank, you would have to choose one of those 6 which would override your former race.

So this would be the only way to have that race with the option to use the race's ability, since the reset version is only superficial and only works as long as you aren't actually playing.

It'd also be nice for cases where you have more energy than you need to level up - like 3k energy and need 3k xp. Something that'd slow you down temporarily would be a nice way to not waste the energy, especially for folks that can't contribute energy to their bases.

I'd love it, but I think it'd be OP...

If I could have the energy I have right now, but not rank up I would be able to climb the killsboard alot easier, while not weakening my ship. I could do WTF I WANT and not rank up. Suddenly, a rank 200 Lazuli Fixer will be born, with everything researched, killer production from NPCing and just generally overpowering everything that rank.

So that is why I say no. I don't want to make life easier than it already is.

If someone have the patience to slow rank, they probably have the patience to only do exp gaining stuff every other day.

A cd isn't going to change much, unless it's 10 day+
On the other hand, if the exp is delayed as opposed to reduced....

yep, +1 for the idea in general, and ++1 for a longer cool-down to ensure that it isn't oveerpowered. i'd even go up to 72 hours, so it could only be used twice per week. that would almost justify adding energy to a slow-rank build ;)
