I could see a great use for it... you post a com on a planet you invaded... stating when and WHO you stole it from..
I've stole over 50 planets.. I cant remember everyone I stole from, but I'm sure they remember that it WAS stolen.. especially considering that I've only fluxed 2 planets.
I'd like to know, have a reminder, of who's toes I've stepped on.

I'd agree with this, if someone is maybe 300-500 ranks above me holding a planet that may be awesome, or at least useful from my point of view, but perhaps mediocre to them, then I'd like the chance to ask what they'd think of me taking it.

Wouldn't necessarily ask them to remove defences, but a polite enquiry could reduce the chances of being zeroed for a fortnight just because someone with a massive ego over-reacted.

You are essentially talking about adding a small tag, with the name and some relevant info of the previous owner, after you've already taken the planet?
To this idea, I'd say a big +1.
What you could do is basically add a small tag to the flags of the planet, or something like that.

And you are saying you'd like to communicate with the current owner before taking their planet?
That could be dangerous for you, seeing as they would know your thinking about it, and might just brick it. or even decide to look for you (or have legion members look for you, if they are out of rank-range) in the BT, to discourage you from taking it, as a pre-emptive strike.
The way i see it, i'ts about as risky as setting off an artifact on their planet and hoping they contact you via your ships comms.

Also, about the main idea, would legion members (when you share the planet) be able to talk on the planet comms as well?

And im Realizing just now, you could easily use a text document from your computer desktop to do this.

Type in name of the planet, the current owners name, rank and legion, before you try to take it. And your done.

I know I COULD make that document on my desktop.. one im not ALWAYS on my desktop.. I play on my cell when im at work, or just cant get home in time to do things...
2.. i dont WANT to make that document... id much rather a better flagging system..
as it stands now, ive got 30 planets with red flags on them... i can gauge WHEN i stole them.. but i cant recall from WHO..
and wheher or not said player has the potential ability to re take it..
I hate cross checking with wiki.. let alone a list of planet names that are for the most part random letters.

Flag the planets you've stolen. That's what I do: wath the purples, they weren't mine to begin with.

True, there really should be some improvement on the flagging system, and like i said, im all for that. I agree with you completely. Dont think it would be to much trouble for Dan either.
I'm just saying, you Could make a text doc. I'ts really not that much work. but of course, on your phone and such, i can see how thats a problem.

i was just thinking of a way to contact planet owners. or leaving a comm on ur own planet to say you dont want it for other players in case they are worried about retal.

-1 this would render spy probe governance useless
I could just post on the planet "are you inactive?" And wait for a reply
if no one replies, then i know the person is inactive.

But a planet archive on who owned the planet previously would be a great idea. +1

Who says someone has to answer your questions?
It would be good if the com was only posted and no names given for who did the posting, besides the current owner.

i personally keep an excel of the planets i would be interested in taking..
if the owners don't rank up after 2 weeks, it's fairly safe to say they are likely to be inactive
there are slow ranking tinies but those are usually ez targets in every sense of the word anyway so~

and excel>text doc for all planet related purposes imo, but a server side storage will certainly be helpful, not everyone is uber dedicated and keep around all sort of info at all times

As for asking about planet invasion... I would probably never do that~ cause i don't get worried over getting zeroed, and i can defend what i steal reasonablly well~ And I always flux after (so much energy went into orbs....)

However, there are uses of this feature that I can think of:
Thou rare, I have found ACTIVE players(by above said excel tracking) who are not in a legion from planets that i've scanned... If the planet is either undisarable OR near impossible to take and therefore we would not end up on hostile terms, I would like to try and invite that player to the legion.

Furthermore, it might be used for setting up badge trading(again, on planets that i can't take anyway or unwanted, so it doesn't matter if owner walls up and/or flux)
