It would be great if planets were tagged with the ign of the first ship to colonize it.

It would also give planets a permanent history, perhaps the original owner could have a bonus to invasion attack too.

The only reason this would be useful is if it was a list of ALL the players who have owned the planet, meaning if the list was long, the planet has a lot of attention but other than that it would just be a "i wish i could...." feature (unless you have an urge to write fan fiction about the tiniest details of the game.)

just thinking about this and the planet comm suggestion:

i was just thinking about historical explorers who all visited various locales in turn, where those locations may not have actually been settled for decades afterwards. however, those visitors may have had some impact on their locations.

having a planet 'history' might add something interesting if 'purging' a scanned planet caused some effect on that planet. say if a planet has been scanned and purged 10x, maybe the 11th time it is scanned, some resource gets improved on it. sort of an 'overlooked gem' of sorts. likewise, a planet that has been colonized / conquered over and over again might have some negative effects as a result of all that warfare.

so, having a record of how many times a planet has been 'impacted' by a GL player might lead to some gameplay effects that might address some of the concerns that Dan seems to have about planet-trading / purging. i also think it might be neat if the game runs for awhile to 'encounter' the traces of players who have explored before you - or maybe that's just ozymandian hubris ??? ;)

I think it's a good idea. There's not alot of actions in the game that gives you bragging rights.

There's 4 million planets in the game, and currently only probably 1/4 is worth colonizing because it would take forever or cost a fortune to improve them.

Improving a random stat by 1 (including size) for a crappy planet to have been scanned and then purged would help make the game a little easiler in the long run esp for low ranked ppl that can't conquer or hold really good planets from higher ranks that want them.

It would be hard to abuse this since the odds of scanning the same planet twice are about 4,000,056 to 1, worse than that if Dan adds more planets :)

The payoff would be noobs less likey to quit over never seeming to get a break on planets plus alot of longterm players having something else to do. Currently when you purge a planet the game acts like you never scanned it. Would be nice to see a new catagory for it. Total Planets Scanned, Total Planets Purged, Current Planets Scanned, Current Planets Owned, ect.

I like the idea of each planet having a history. Maybe each purge makes it more likely to have an analyzable feature.
