has this been suggested before? but a bounty list would be awesome for both pvp and pve players. people placing bounties could also choose whether to pay in min artis or res or cr's, this would add a new dimension and a new power pecking order. As a result there would be no doubt as to who the strongest players are as they would have the most bounties, or at least who the strongest bounty hunters are

Public bounties?
- i think one of the best things about bounties is the fact that you have to do the work and find a "buyer"
Coming from the hunted side. i dont want to have my name all over AU as a small time bounty at rank 100.
How fair is it, when the world is trying to hunt a rank 100 for stealing a planet??
Make a facebook page, or a forum page so that we can get some flame wars gonig on,
i like to watch those :D

Why did I suggest this idea if it is so bad? (I agree it is bad for players) But for the designers its good because they can make more money if there is more reason for competition. After thinking about i am now against this idea and wish I had never mentioned it, the players of GL are very smart and will probably figure out ways to abuse it even with safeguards, so in other words, NEVERMIND

I'm sure there are ways to make it work, but yeah... it would be extremely hard to make it fairly safe from abuse.
Here is a proposed plan if anyone wanna consider it:

The poster of bounty must be lower ranked than the target.
You can only post bounty on ships that you have alert link to from an offensive action he performed on you.
In case where you consider the offense extremely serious, you may post a KoS bounty, which will be automatically reinstated every 48 hours if possible until canceled. You may not cancel a KoS order that have been completed at least 10 times AND no sooner than 2 weeks.
The poster of bounty must specify payment, which are then locked in the cargo. Only one type of artifact/mineral/"other" may be used as reward for each bounty, quantity to be specified by poster. The item must be tradable to star with.
The poster of bounty might post a number of different reward qualification, such as reward per disable, per hack, per raid or zero(one or all category). In case of "per action" bounty, 10x the amount is locked in the cargo, but additional amount will be drawed from cargo if availiable or until bounty is removed. When there is insufficent amount for another payment, the bounty expires.
By "locked in cargo" it means that you cannot sell/scrap/trade/use the item in such a way that will reduce the specific item below the locked limit
A bounty might be canceled at anytime. if it was a per action bounty, an amount equal to one completion is taken as a fee. Otherwise, 10% of the posted bounty is paid as a fee.
A player may only post 3 bounty at a time, additonal slot may be purchased by GP or CR(GP for some flat rate, whereas CR start at 1B and x5 for each additonal one purchased by CR)
Posted bounty will be updated onto the list each hour on the hour. However, there can be a random delay of up to 10 hours between inatial posting and it being added to the list

The hunter of a bounty may take the job for a flat rate of 100 energy. Once the job is taken, if condition is met, a 5 minute alert link will be provided. In term of the "per action" bounty, this 100 energy payment only need to be made once, and the actions can be performed multiple times as long as the link is active.
When a job is attempted to be taken, the condition will be checked. If the condition is not met, then the job lock fails, 100 energy is NOT refunded. The energy is also not refunded when the job is completed by another player first in such a way that the hunter is unable to perform it. However, if the job expires before you take it, the energy is not spent.
The condition to successfully pick up a job is 1. to be within badge range and 2. you have more scan than target ship cloak.

I think the above described system should end up fun and chanllenging and minimize bullying

i like Uy23e's suggestions for the most part.

the idea of 'locking' the bounty reward in cargo seems troublesome to me - better to have the bounty removed from cargo for the duration of the bounty. held in something like a um galactic trade center perhaps ? the 10% bounty fee can be captured at the posting of the bounty.

in any case, successful bounty gatherers can then claim their bounty rewards. any 'rewards' left at the end of the bounty period can then revert to the original bounty poster as the final 'winner', so that all ledgers line up.

I gotta say no to any form of in-game system for bounty hunting. It would only create MORE needless drama.

Here's what's going to happen if someone bounty hits ME... They WILL get alerted to my legion. They WILL get zeroed. They WILL stay zeroed as long as we have that person on our news feed. They WILL be ZoS for my legion for quite some time. Invariably, their reaction is going to be "WTF man? It was just a bounty!" All for 100ctp or whatever. And I'm a fairly reasonable fellow. The little folk are going to end up in legion wars and Pub arguments because the target stole a Very Large Rich Gas planet from some random Noob who's not connected to either legion.

If someone does something to you, man up and return the favor. Can't do it alone? There's this little thing called the Alert Legion button. If your legion can't help get retribution, live with it. Whatever that person did to you... It's part of the game.
