i was just wondering, if you can't see all of an enemy ship's modules if you don't have enough scan, why can we see all of a planet's structures automatically ? it would make sense that if your scan wasn't high enough to counteract the cloak of a planet, then you wouldn't be able to see all the structures of a planet, either. finding a planet and being able to see everything on it should be 2 different things. just a thought, feel free to rip this one apart, lol

Because planetary structures more often than not are huge and not all that hard to see, however ship modules are relatively hidden and it's also possible to have hidden weapons and the like.

It's easy: you only have to look at a planet to see there's something on it

well i'm sure if you looked down on a planet from orbit, you could tell SOMETHING was there, but you can't tell exactly what it is

I actually agree that the planet cloaking should count for something.. theres no description of WHAT EXACTLY is doing the cloaking.. it could be a massive hologram showing over the surface...
I think that atleast a few planet structures should be 'undetermined' for every 1500 to 2K or so of cloak..
I'd say even go so far as to hide some of the defences, and on your screen it would only show the defence of the modules that you CAN see, and if you cant see them, then you dont know how hard the planet is defended... you could guesstimate when you hit it of course. but that could either tip your hand that you have it on scan, or it could be the worlds easiest theft.. you just dont know.

think of it this way...you go out in and find a planet. You use your scanners (while you are in orbit to figure out everything there is about the planet. If the cloak it too much, so that a complete picture of the planet is not obtained it is not logged. If you "break through" the cloak and manage to scan the whole thing then it is logged as well. That is what cloak does, have enough then the scanners are not even able to see that the planet exists.

honestly why would you want to change this after 2 years of it working this way? It is simple and works well.

In the year 2012, the Human race had developed cameras that could easily identified a structure from space.
In the year whenever GL is set all races have these.
