i'm guessing that this might be due to concerns about lag / server load - the more timers active, the greater the chance of 'something bad' happening.
when i first saw (and squinted at) the analog clock, i was thinking that that was boneheaded. but then i checked back 10 minutes later and noticed that the hands of the clock weren't moving and that it was just a static image, that you had to click to get the digital readout.
if this test works out, then Darth's other timer suggestions might be workable. however, if EVERYONE ran with all those timers on by default, that might cause problems.
timers on by default: energy, shield
timers on by request: galactic clock
timers / trackers requested: pacified, actions
