Just don't activate them.
I'm kinda .5 on this. If a proper stat ratio and way to obtain them can be made then sure why not.

if its a planet , give it some thickness... because now it looks really stupid, no offense

Yeah, this has been suggested like a dozen times before.
And, not trying to critical or anything but...bracelets? Why "bracelet" of all words? "Ring" or "disc" or something is a much better word. Bracelet is just kinda' tacky.

The "halo" world is just another form of a dyson planet.

Disc wouldn't really fit. They aren't flat, circle shapes, they have a great big hole in the middle

Makes no logical sense. Planets form because clumps of matter are attracted to each other (because of gravity). Then, the matter clump gets bigger and bigger, attracting more matter as it's gravitational pull becomes stronger. Its mass and gravitational pull go up with a direct proportionality. However, after a certain point, it cannot get any bigger (depending where it forms) because of lack of matter or other reasons. This new clump of matter, known as a planet, has to be generically spherical because a sphere is the strongest shape when there is any amount of force from the center.
The planet has a strong gravitational pull, in its center, that holds the planet together. No matter what you do to a planet, the strongest gravitational pull will be at the center, where it is the most dense. Therefore, it will pull everything around it to form a layer around the center. This layer would have to be even all across, hence forming a sphere.
Like I said, it's not scientifically possible.

these were made popular under the name ringworld by larry niven, in 1970, cannot find any previous mention of this type of structure
as for the science, it spins around the star, it is basically a suspension bridge, on a grand scale, its alot more elegant than a dyson because, it doesn;t require artificial gravity and can be made out of the mass of a standard solar system.
on the downside, even if it were made of continuous carbon nano tubes, the spinning force would still rip the thing apart, thou nano tubes come very close to the required strength, its not impossible that such a material exists.
a ringworld as described in the book has the surface area of ~ 3000 earths

Plus, you ca build inside the planet

Never seen this type, most of the time the ring is around the star (as in the first two pics) not in a planetary orbit. As a much smaller object, it seems like it would have drastically reduced gravity... failname wrote: if its a planet , give it some thickness... because now it looks really stupid, no offense Thick is bad, you want it (relatively) thin and strong. Too thick and not only does it take too much material to construct, but it probably looses structural integrity due to the increased gravitational pull toward the star it encircles. Silver_Stiched_Crow wrote: I think you misspelled dyson ring Or earlier in nomenclature, ringworld, as pointed out by nirces. Delta62 wrote: The "halo" world is just another form of a dyson planet. There aren't any real dysons (as in spheres that completely envelope the star in their system) in the game, so this is a new concept in game. f3ar3dlegend wrote: Makes no logical sense. Like I said, it's not scientifically possible. Most commonly these are envisioned as constructed objects, not naturally occurring.

Yeah, both these, and Dyson spheres are BUILT by...well somebody. They don't just show up naturally. Like the Halo rings from Halo. They didn't just exist, they were constructed by the Forerunner species to well...kill stuff.

Well if they are artificial (man-made)...
They would need to have a force pushing outwards to offset the gravity of the star... That's pretty hard to do considering the star will have a massive amount of gravity...

Consider a stone arch, the same physics comes into play when building a solid ring around a gravity well. The bigger problem is that it will tend to drift off center. Some sort of constant active position correction mechanism is needed.

Consider a stone arch, the same physics comes into play when building a solid ring around a gravity well. The bigger problem is that it will tend to drift off center. Some sort of constant active position correction mechanism is needed. It would never drift astray: The gravity from the star is pulling it inward, and the star is pushing (itself) outward. Only when it is in the center will the forces be balanced and allow the ring to stay intact. The ring would never move because if it did, it would offset the balance of the star's gravity and its force and ultimately destroy itself. You would need a massive amount of force to push the ring out of it's position around a star.
