Post subject:  Legion Tax

I've contacted Dan and he says to post this idea for the forum to discuss.

Legion Tax
A special button added to the Legion:Legion base:Actions tab

An option where a leader or possibly a leader/leader officer/all members option can take off a specified percentage of all mineral sales that a member of the legion makes and give it to the base funds.

The first 20% is the mandatory sales tax. We then have a drop down menu of choices in maybe 10% increments which would go all the way up to 100%. At 100% though the maximum 80% of all mineral sales would be given directly to the base, while the game's taxman would keep the other 20%.

I was thinking this could be an option for a mandatory tax for legion members set by either all players, officers and leaders or settable just by leaders.

Sound like i good idea
Keeps people donating without the chance of them telling leaders that they can't donate a certain amount when they can
+1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

KEEP IN MIND HE DID SAY OPTIONAL

We had a long discussion on this the last time it came up. I'll try to find the link later unless someone else grabs it first. I'm a legion leader and I argued AGAINST it. The main thing being, NO ONE besides Dan should have the right to tell me how my credits should be used. Period. There are way too many variables on a day to day basis for anyone to decide how much 59 other people can afford. Someone might be saving credits/minerals for ship upgrades OR they need to upgrade their planet structures OR they need to save credits to invade the 45x Dyson they just found. You don't know. I feel I have a fairly nice idea of how my crew, in general, is set financially, but I'm not arrogant enough to say that random member joeschmuck can afford to lose 2B credits today to cover the base upkeep. If you are having trouble making upkeep on your ship, what do you do? You sell mods. Guess what... Same rule applies to the legion base. If your legion can't afford the upkeep for whatever reason, you have too much stuff on it.

Down boy take a deep breath and maybe have a stiff drink. I half way agree with darth I've played games before where you have a "guild/clan" tax on the money you get and most of the time it really gets my goat. Granted on the other hand the idea is somewhat sound that you would have to pay fees from membership in a elite group or what not.
It would have to be a low amount though at most 5-10% in exchange the trading tax in game for selling your hourly production might have to get changed slightly....

I would argue that it would be a good thing at a MAX of 10%, but much nicer at 5%.. that would allow people to save credits, and IF your leaders are courteous, then im sure DARTH XXX would be more then happy to oblige the members by either leaving the base trade center open for withdrawls ( tax free at that) OR, they could share some of their production with you.

I think the best way for this is for the tax to have an on and off setting. As well as a percent setting. In aomw lwgiona credit is a hard part. But some legions dont have a problem qith credit at all. So this is like the resource division. Can be divided evenly or based percent. I bet if there was a way to includw credit xontribution to base percentage people qill start to donate

To you and the previous posts.. i did say it was an optional setting.. some legions can do without it, some can have it active and can set the amount.

and i think some kind of credit contribution would be a useful idea too.. and also a total amount of creds contributed to base statistic

You have a good point but some legion can barly keep up with the base and haveing an OPTIONAL like this whould be the most fair and most trusting way for people to donate/taxed on credits for the base.

If you make people donate credit based on thier rank people lose out because they will most likely sturrgle with it. And this is where you think why don't you ask everyone to see what they can donate 1 that leeds to lies and 2 it's super hard for most legion mine being one of them to get every member to give thier input.

If You ask people what they can donate they lie

And frankly it's just not fair leaving the base on the should of just a few member being in that position i can barly do anything a stuggel just to pay upkeep and help the base pay for upkeep basing credit off of a % whould help me and the other who are donating to the base while not having a huge inpact on other members

I wish legion members that has the Builder Profession can decrease the overall legion's upkeep. That way builders have a good use around the legion not just for the owner of the ship.

Our level 7 base has a lower daily upkeep than my ship. It doesn't need to be reduced any further....

The old thread on legion levied taxes...

Post subject:  Re: Legion Tax

Being in a legion is a voluntary act, and just as legion leadership can impose rules and make demands (combat rep, #actions, etc) I see no reason why credits should be above this.. its not real money, its ingame. Bases benefit or hinder the legion as a whole. However I do agree that giving someone the power to reach into your hold and take is a bit much. Perhaps a better method would be a player option located in the settings menu that allow a player to set a percentage and maybe even a cap.

We tried doing a tax (we called it rent). Trust me, it does NOT work.

I've seen most legion do a daily credit contribution requirement. Every little thing makes a difference. Msot doesn't work, most does, just depends on how loyal the members are.
Example.
lower ranked (Below 299) - atleast 150m to 200m a day into the base
mid ranked (300-599) - atleast 300m to 350m a day
higher ranked (600+) - 400m+ a day

For those of you who don't know how long / big that number is, it is 1 duotrigintillion; 10^99 in scientific notation.

However, I support a legion tax of 1% increments, to a cap of 50%. Let the legion members keep at least 30% of their earnings.

Post subject:  Re: Legion Tax

Your income is already decided by your rank......setting it at 2% of your daily income would mean alot of difference between a rank 40 and a rank 400....... for a rank 40 it might mean they add to the bank maybe $20,000 a day where as a rank 400 might add as much as $3,000,000,000 a day.

Besides your arguing agesnt taxes is a moot point...you already pay a 20% tax just from selling your production for credits wouldnt be hard to take it out of that 20% now would it?

Post subject:  Re: Legion Tax

A player decided opt in/opt out would be a good idea. Perhaps 5% of income and if you opt out then your base payout is decreased by 25%. (feel free to modify the percentages) The excess from people that opt out is shared between those that have opted in. Make the setting similar to loyalty ie if you have opted out then you must opt in for 7 days before your base payout increases back to full.

And in the interest to legions that don't need/want to levy and tax a leader set option to turn this on or off.
