Ok, so I pulled a bait and switch on ya... Sue me... At least I have your attention now...
Edit: Ok, so Dan didn't like the bait and switch tactics...
So anyway, I was chatting with Pony the other day and he had the start of a pretty good idea. We kicked it back and forth for a bit and here you go. Major credit for this goes to him.

This is a legion cooperative effort that involves basically every major facet of the game for a really great (but undetermined) reward at the end.

  • Stage One: Rare one time NPC hunt. This would be a MATCHED enemy so all levels can participate equally. Cloak would scale at 4x Rank so you would have to use some scan to find it. I'm thinking Rogue Experimenter spawn chance with strong matched stats. Reward: Unlock Stage Two

  • Stage Two: 5 concurrent, task-required Missions. Energy requirement scales according to rank ranges. For example, Ranks 1-50=25 energy per click, Ranks 51-100=50 energy per click, etc.
    • Mission 1: Energy + 1 Silver Badge, 150 clicks to complete. Reward 1 silver “puzzle piece.” 5 Reps
    • Mission 2: Energy + 1 Red Badge + 1 Yellow Badge, 100 clicks to complete. Reward 1 orange “puzzle piece.” 5 Reps
    • Mission 3: Energy + 1 Blue Badge, 100 clicks to complete. Reward 1 blue “puzzle piece.” 5 Reps
    • Mission 4: Energy + 1 Dark Badge, 200 clicks to complete. Reward 1 dark “puzzle piece.” 5 Reps
    • Mission 5: Energy + 1 Green Badge, 25 clicks to complete. Reward 1 green “puzzle piece.” 3 Reps

As an alternative on Mission 4, a new, matched uncommon NPC could be created which drops the item for use instead of the relatively common Dark Badge.

  • Stage Three: The “puzzle pieces” would be artifacts used on the legion base. For silver, orange, blue and dark pieces, 150 would be required to unlock the accompanying reward. Green would be 90. This way you need to have at least 30 people from the legion involved for each mission task. Also, you would have to have legion loyalty to do the missions AND use the artifacts. This would help minimize “merc-ing” your puzzle pieces.

  • Final Reward: This is the part where we kinda got stumped. Naturally, with all the effort involved, the final rewards would have to be pretty nice. Some new 0 space Base mod, a new Base ability, ship abilities semi-related to the theme of the missions. Ship abilities would scale for individual players based on how much they participated in each specific mission. For 5 puzzle pieces you would get 100% of the bonus, 4 = 80%, 3 = 60%, etc. 33% increments for the green mission of course. A drawback I can see is members joining the legion after the missions are completed would be locked out of getting the bonuses. Need some input on a way around that. I'm also thinking that some mechanism should be in place that limits the bonus when you leave the legion you earn it in. Upon returning to that particular legion, the full earned bonus would be reinstated.

you dont get the point, something like this must not be a simple mission chain you end in 10 minutes but a achievement, you must put effort into it ,

Stage 2: I would like the missions to be repeatable then the sub 200 guys can just go rampant for the orange pieces and the larger NPC hunters could go get the dark pieces.
To avoid just a few people getting this whole thing done, have a limit on the % of pieces you can donate.
At any point you can contribute up to 10% of all pieces donated.

Stage 3: Needing at least 30 people in the legion means small legions have no way of finishing this. Yes you could call this a bonus for being in a large legion but we shouldn't have things you can only do in large legions.

The missions are not repeatable for that exact reason. Why take the "easy" route? It helps prevent members from being pigeon holed into one specific game feature. The idea is to encourage teamwork to achieve a group goal and to encourage players to experience all facets of the game rather than just being a "PvP guy" or whatnot. If you don't participate in all the features, you don't get all the bonuses. Setting participation at minimum 30 means that NPCers can choose not to do the PvP missions (as an example) and the legion can still complete it while at the same time, 30 members isn't that much to ask for "small" legions. It's only 50-60% of capacity.

The stage/progression aspect is nice. As long as one member cannot 'carry' the entire legion through it all... :)

Saw the title change and was like WTF??? Ninja thread jacking at it's finest! :D

That's exactly why we set it up so that each person can only do so many reps on a mission, yet the final reward for using the drop from the missions is 30x what each person can do. That FORCES the legion to work together for a change instead of relying on a small handful of people with huge energy bars. Reps for each mission cannot be used toward the end reward for a different mission.

Ohhhhhh, I thought I would have to do mission 1 to do mission 2 and etc.
It is just 5 missions you can do whenever, gotcha.

30 people getting 75 green badges mean this would be practically impossible to complete for most legions

With this idea one BIG thing is not making it essay for upper rank legions nor hard for lower ranks legions . It also cant to unfair to the upper rank guy playing with his lower rank friends I dont want them being hurt by it. witch is why scaling the nrg needed by rank would be VERY cool. try to keep the difficultly ever for every one.

You realize of course this is by design a system that is not supposed to be completed in a week right? It's made intentionally difficult AND time consuming specifically to keep people working together toward a long term goal.

over 2 years is way to long for an in game goal and this would just promote green badge farming

I have no clue how you figure "over 2 years" to be quite honest. One cycle of the Green mission CAN be done in less than a month starting from 0 badges. 50 people do it 1 full rep. That leaves 40 more reps. That means 80% would have to do 2 full reps which can be done in 2 months. Starting from no progress, you can do 3 reps in as little as 75 days (2.5 months). If you are at max planets, ranking 1 time per day enables you to get a green every 4 days. Allowing for a little variance in ranking speed, let's say 6 days between invasions, you can have 75 green badges at that conservative pace in 450 days. Naturally, the ability/device awarded for completing this task would be significant, justifying the time and effort put in.

Why does everything have to be dumbed down so it can be done in a matter of days?

Maybe the final reward (if it is an ability) could be tied to the legion base? I'm not necessarily talking about a base ability but more of a ship ability that resides with the base. That way when you join and become loyal you have access to it even if you weren't part of gaining it. But when you leave you lose access, like the CT lab. Perhaps the strength/effectiveness of the said ability could be scaled by rank tier like the energy requirement of the stage 2 missions.

50 people in a legion getting 25 green badges sounds totally plausible for most legions
3 reps in 75 days sure if you farm greens
an invasion every 6 days is a bit more frequent then most people get
instead of 75 make it more like 10 with that requiring 30 people to complete it thats still 300 invasions all up and makes it possible for most legions to complete

all up tho i do like this idea i know its not meant to be completed overnight i also think the alternative for mission 4 would be better as most will be saving there dark badges for composite rays

Instead of puzzle piece have them be switches when each mission is done and all switches are on and the base gets a % boost in production. The person who completes the mission gets a reward for the mission like:
Red one gives an artifact that allows you to see what traps a person has on.
Blue gives a small boost to scan/cloak for an hour a fixed amount like 100.
Green an invasion multiplier +5% chance.
Silver an art that gives a higher chance at a rare item from base drop.
Dark puts an elite on your bt.
Yellow increases chances of a critical raid by 10% for an hour.
All missions are on the same timer, say 23 hrs. Switch stays on for 20 hrs.

I realize this would mean they wouldn't require the badges, but honestly I rather not have to collect more badges...i am getting tired of the whiners. Let me start it and have a repeatable mission in which I can do on my own, but require others to do the others so I can improve my ship while not being forced into playing an aspect of the game I may not want to.
