some kind of timer for when the new one is due or leaving the date in the description (on the main page) of when the current one is going to expire

Yeah, I don't know why this hasn't been implemented. Anybody who ever finishes the missions have little idea when the next one is showing up. It would be very nice, and I don't think it would be a very hard thing to add.
