It says your scientists analyse the data, so if there is a way wouldn't it be better if it was based of the amount of scientists you had.

But that doesn't make more data show up out of no where. It makes no sense to have a disc with ever expanding knowledge just cause you have more people. So as long as there is even one scientist left on your ship to do the job, the result should be the same. On the other hand.... a realistic logical suggestion would make the disc: 1. unusable if there is no scientist on ship (lol, that takes a lot of bad luck) 2. give it a cd on use according to number of scientist on ship 3. there is a chance that a smaller than 700 amount is awarded if there are too few scientist on board. specifically, something might be over looked when there is just a few ppl around to check it out. Ofc... that's unnessary complication that likely have no impact on the game so... probably not. However, this is much more realistic based than the OP if you want to consider real world concept from the text.

If you want to give it a realistic approach, let it give between 0 and 1000 research. Some disks will be broke, others will be perfect. Data will vary on importance and usefulness.

So maybe it should be more like a bell curve, first goes up, then it goes down~ lolz, this suggestion is going the complete opposite direction as the OP's intend

I like the random idea, wouldn't do zero, maybe 100 to 1000 will a bell curve for the amount you get. There is always new data to be found even in old data, stuff gets overlooked every day.

There is always new data to be found even in old data, stuff gets overlooked every day. but you would expect that you will find less useful data on the 10th copy of a same disc, wont u? u can only over look so much. And after a trillion disks, 10 copy of same thing is more likely. Here is my proposition for a randomized formula. (20+R)*Rand(1+50/sqr(D+100),1+500/sqr(D+100)) where R is total research tier you have completed (completed as in all sub tier of a tier, not just each tier) D is the number of disks you ever used before So the first ever disk will give around 150-2000 research depend on research done etc. The 2400th disk, which will be likely after 100 techs are completed, will give 240-1320 research The 9900th disk, which will be likely after 118 techs are completed, will give 207-828 research. Ofc, the formula can be adjusted, but this is a more realistic model than the current for sure.

Anyone who just doesn't have much artifact production yet or hasn't even research hybrid theory dynamics. Anyone who has it discovered, but doesn't buy extra grids and/or clouders to keep up with their alien data discs. Anyone who makes more data centers than they know what to do with.
