Post subject:  Abandoning Planets

The cost to abandon (5 GP) and the fact that new players get stuck with bad planets was brought up again in another thread. Here is a suggestion for an alternative solution:

Abandoning a planet still costs 5 GP. OR it costs the price of your next colonization x2.

Colonization is EXPENSIVE at any level. Plenty of people would still just pay the 5 GP, but people with no points or people with multiple crap planets would have another option available - invest in paying off the population.

5 credits? You do realize thats nothing, even at rank 1. Now if it was like triple what colonization costs then maybe, juuuust maybe. I mean we got to feed Dan somehow.

My terms were mixed up. When I said credits, I meant Galaxy Points.

I still think it's good that it's 5 GP ... It makes you think twice before colonising ... Besides, you start with 10 GP if I remember or even 15 ... So you have some GP to spare in case you make such mystake at the beginning as colonising a crap planet. (And I think I did at the time on my very first planet ... I used the GPs I had from the start to get rid of it)

so you do have options ... If you used the GPs another way ... well that's your choice to assume :)

Why does it cost 5 GP to abandon a planet? To colonize a planet you use energy and money but to leave you have to spend GP? What is the sense in that? A real civilization would leave a planet behind if they found a better one, why can't we?

Change it so that abandoning a planet costs something reasonable and moves everything to a new planet.

a bunch of ppl waste the 10 GP they start with early on.....
often the same bunch of ppl who colonizes bad planet noobishly

frankly, it's very likely for someone who is new to make both mistakes, and then they end up unable to correct the problem w/o paying (fb free offers can help some ppl, but not all)

i know there is gp in daily reward, but it's so rare you can hardly count on it.

might be good to have a limited artifact that gets unlocked via mission at ~rank 100-150 that allows you to abondon 3-5 planets or so.

Being limited ppl would still have to think twice before colonzing, but this would be fairly safe from "noobish error"

Like Uy23e said, there already is ways to get free GP. Do free surveys for FB cred. All you need to do is put some time aside. One of the survey sites in the 'earn' list are crowdflower, I've used it a few times to get some GP.

How about daily acheivements like say "Be one of the top 20 damagers", reward=10GP that was just an example so i don't want anyone complaining that 10 is too much for that achievement. Now there could be a max of say 5-10 each day and they could be random.

Top 20 damagers of the entire game? All the GP would go to the high ranks, which defeats the purpose of previously mentioned GP suggestions - or even giving newbies a chance to lose the nasty planets.

I have to say I spent more GP on abandon than almost anything else in GL; after I reset I don't need to do it for my own planets, but mostly now I abandon to give stuff to friends, and there is the reason I think for its cost as an anti-abuse measure, although I forget the exact reason. I don't really see it changing.

that mission stuff sounds better, for those who cant get GP's (cant afford or like me cant buy cuz of country i live in)
but mission reward should be not only abandoning it should be abandon+flux to prevent ppl dropping nice player made planets for free.
also mission should be "This mission can be repeated at any time." but dead expensive.
1k energy a pop and lets say 50k energy total + some bunch of artis

although at the same time of purge, active alerts are also removed.(not sure if that's the way it works now... if u alert a planet then purge it... does the alert still work?)
in any case... i would perfer a fairly easy limited missions, so it helps the noobs w/o being too painful
but i'm also fine with a repeatable that ALSO give the artifact, but at a much more expensive cost.
something like 20x100 for the first 5(maybe first link in chain)
and then 200x300 for the repeatable(maybe second and final part of the chain)

sorta like flux and flux orb, except instead of being weaker on the repeatable, it's more expensive(partly cause i dunno how to make it weaker XD. maybe first 5 don't purge?)

also by planet flux i meant, that even if that "crappy" planet is on other ppl scan list it purges from there also, i have some ppl who ask me to sell some of my planets cuz they have scanned it, so abandoning+purge dont really work... just completely reset the planet nobody have it on scans and its unocc

possible solution. Put a mission in, fairly early.. say lvl 25-40 range. offer 'planetary evacuation plan' as a reward artifact. 2 or 3 reps, offers a free abandon to help those players who choose badly on their first 5-10 planets because they were noobs instead of spending 10 GP. this offers a limited solution so people can't just planet hop willy-nilly. but helps noobs like I was live and learn instead of crippling themselves.

they could just invade it after u remove all def/atk buildings such that it's 90% chance. u don't really lose anything if u fail and it's hard to fail
free badge too
