See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_circles. It has been purported to be the aliens' ways of leaving messages for us. Also, on an infamous, tired game named "Farmvale," ("Farmerville," or however it's spelled? ![]() Why not leave messages / drawings on planets - occupied and unoccupied worlds alike? I'd love to leave poems and drawings. Others may like to leave Haikus, or a simple note saying "<Nickname> was here!" We are aliens to many cultures on this game; for those of us who feel like it, we ought to leave messages on other worlds too. And some may leave them for important reasons. It would make the game more worthwhile. I've heard some high-ranked users would like to retire since there's nothing new for them. This might busy them some more. (And don't forget a Paint-style drawing interface for the galactic artists!) Just a thought. - Asheron |

As what is generally considered a high rank player, I can honestly say this would do absolutely nothing for me. I can only see very minimal utility for ANYONE. And as someone else already implied, there would have to be an actual person monitoring all signs for offensive content. |

Darth Flagitious wrote: As what is generally considered a high rank player, I can honestly say this would do absolutely nothing for me. You may not be the artful / poetic type, but many of us are. We'd get our own venue to express our creativities. Oh, and some legions may put up contests for players to leave the best poetry/prose and artwork on any of their planets, and win prizes of rare, valuable artifacts. - Asheron Darth Flagitious wrote: I can only see very minimal utility for ANYONE. Maybe anyone you know? But let's think of the ways we'd use planet messages: "This planet is only for (name) to take; if anyone else does, you will be (sanctioned)!" "This planet is the green badge football for (name of pacted legion(s)). Any unauthorized invader will be retaliated upon!" "I will always love you, (screenname of player's significant other)!" "OBJECTIVE FOR (name of this planet): Enhance it to (higher statistic, whether it be a passive ability, or a higher abundance of resource)!" And many, many other uses. Let your imagination run wild. - Asheron Darth Flagitious wrote: And as someone else already implied, there would have to be an actual person monitoring all signs for offensive content. Does anyone monitor comm-to-comm messages? Many users EASILY get around word filters and if that happens to me, I just delete the comm. If an offending message / drawing is left on a player's planet, just like a comm message, they can delete a planet's message. And if anyone does monitor for offensive content, there'd be willing prospective volunteers who'll do it in exchange for GPs; various players would take that as a good-enough compensation; wouldn't need to pay them real-world currency. - Asheron |

Goddangit Asheron, you're lucky some of us aren't mods otherwise we would've banned you from ever posting in the Suggestions and Ideas. (and believe me, that is quite easy to accomplish in the admin section) |

There can be some extent of controlled creativity, but that wouldn't be the case for this idea. This idea is clearly insignificant with other previous ideas. The fact that you can't analyze the game properly is probably why you're creating these terrible ideas. These terrible ideas have flaws which can be exploited easily. Until you have a grasp on how this game is successful you may never ever post an idea that's actually worthwhile. If you want to create an idea that all of us would like study the game first, analyze areas of game play that can be improved and make an appropriate idea. |

Because they're images. Why do you think people invented Captchas? Because it's exceedingly hard to make a bot which filters out inappropriate content from images. Text-based planet messages? Sure. Maybe. That's not too long to code, and may have a little use. To be able to crop circle, or graffiti or whatever you want to call said planet is just stupid. -1 Suggested by Asheron -1 Total: -2 |

I'll still -1 things for it being you no matter how many religious symbols you make yourself wear. Don't try to be insulted. People don't -1 you because you have Jewish heritage, or anything like that. They -1 them because they suck. I have no issue with you as a person, just give up on the suggestions. We're 1 in 40ish on the scoreboard right now? Not a great score, tbh... everyone makes bad suggestions sometimes, yes. Sometimes they haven't put enough thought into something, but you do it scarily often. |

I didn't spot this before, but volunteers aren't the answer to everything. As a company Eris Media (Dan's Company) cannot afford to rely on volunteers for anything. Whilst operant conditioning through sanctions are a sound idea in themselves, you again, cannot allow volunteers to do this. Would you let someone in to your legion and make them officer immediately? No. Now image if you ran a company. Would you do it now? HELL NO. Ultimately, they do not want to be sued, and relying on volunteers for moderation of a completely useless commercial venture is a sound way to go down that route. |

I'll -1 every one of your dumb suggestions even if you wore the Star of David, the Cross, The Islamic Crescent, the Ying-Yang, a sacred Aboriginal Totem, The Buddha, a Pentagram and any other religious symbols I missed. I'd -1 any of your dumb suggestions if you were white, black, native, Asian, elf, mentally challenged, genius, blonde, brunette, ginger, redhead, emo, gay, straight, bi, trans, etc. The fact remains, your suggestions have a bad habit of being stupid. I don't care what your heritage is, I, and most of us here, have come to expect you to post dumb suggestions. |

Whatever amount of dataspace it requires will will be inconsequential in the future, if not already so. - Asheron If you've ever done any programming before, you'd realize how hard it is to program in a GUI. The text part is easy, and won't require much memory. To implement something where you can draw or paint on a planet, that's hardcore programming. I'm unfamiliar with Java (I believe most FB apps are programmed in Java), but in Python (which I know fairly well), coding for even simple GUI's are pretty long. There may be built-in modules for this, but regardless, it would be saved as an image and would take too much memory overall (with many pictures). In addition, you need the images to be censored, and I doubt anyone is going to manually do it. Censoring text is one thing, as it's just iterating through the text and then checking if any of the words are forbidden (or not). Censoring images is a whole new thing. You can't simply 'iterate' through pixels, nor would that help. A pixel by itself will just be one color; that's impossible for it to be inappropriate or offensive (unless someone hates a specific color, I guess). You'd have to check the image as a whole, which is pretty damn hard to do for a program. I doubt Dan wants to manually sort through the images, either; he has better things to do. Overall, it's a nice idea but pretty useless; no real practical need for it. I doubt Dan wants to spend his whole day adding things to the game that are useless; he has other things to do in his life. He will (probably) only add useful things, because that's a better way to use his time. varunjitsingh146 wrote: Asheron wrote: thunderbolta wrote: Because they're images. Asheron, you should really learn to take criticism when you're given it as opposed to ranting on about your religion/race and waging a personal war against people that downvote your suggestions. It's for the best really. As for your suggestion here -1, this is what flags (which I use a lot of 4 out of 5 colours) and messages on alerts are for, which makes posting a billboard on other planets kind of pointless. Good day to you but if you seriously insist on fighting me, I'm Fenix, ranked 189, very low cloaking. |
