Yes, this is a good idea. Dan, I can understand if you cannot find it within yourself to forgive them yet. But please try to see it from their side, especially Xzien. He has been working on this book all this time, and when he needs it most, you turn him down. I am not saying that you did not have your own legitimate reasons, but I am saying that he needs it most right now, which is why he wanted it to happen soon. Also, consider all that he has given to us as a community. 1. He started (and maintained) the artists' guild. 2. He has been an extremely helpful player, and he tries to help whenever and however he can. 3. He started a list of pet peeves that I think helped the forum as a whole learn what NOT to do. 4. He hung around in the Suggestions & Ideas forum quite frequently while he was still here, and he made sensible suggestions to imp
Now, Icarium is a little bit different. He seems to me to be the type to get angry quickly, but I could be wrong. Either way, he also has been helpful in the Strategy and Suggestions forums, as well as the Beginner's Hub. He knows quite a bit about the game, and his presence here is something that helps us as a whole. Now, I understand that the post(s) he made might have seemed (and been) disrespectful, but I do not think a single soul on this forum could deny that they were feeling sentiments similar to his. He was simply the one who stepped up, said what needed to be said, and took the fall for it along with Preliator Xzien and Spaceman.
Lastly, we come to Spaceman. I do not know the reasons for his banning, but in all of my dealings with him, he has seemed to be a reasonable person. I do not know him as well as the other two, but I know that he hung out in the Beginner's Hub quite a bit, as well as making a few suggestions and adding on to or improving already made suggestions.
To sum it up in a sentence: These are worthy members of the forum who would like to continue to be a part of this community.
Thank you for reading this, and please consider this proposal with reason, integrity, and, above all, compassion.

I'm not trying to tel any one what to do, to flame , or debait. I'm just suggesting this is a bad idea.

Dan has basically listened to icariums thread and kicked it into gear, so that makes me wonder why icarium and other members are still banned, when Dan agrees that changes need to be made. As for xzien I don't really know why he was banned but he has made a lot of contributions from what I have seen.

icar's ban is for what went on in the thread he provoked something that got out of hand yes i agree on a ban for him but not a perma ban 1 week 1 month tops let both sides cool down for the other 2 i did not get to see there posts as dan had deleted them before i even got to see or read so no idea what was said by them so sadly i will not put my name to it as i do not know the full story on why they were booted but it as i said for icar i would say a short ban would be a better way towards it to allow both sides and all around to cool down with even a email from dan to icar saying warning do not start something up this again but as i said i do not know both sides for the others

I was away while all this was happening, so I missed a lot and don't feel like I know the scope of the situation. However I've been told that several pertinent posts were deleted from Icarium's thread, notably one or more posts by Xzien (and Spaceman?) which are (presumably) the reason why he/they were banned.
As I have not read those posts, I cannot comment as to whether any forum rules were broken or whether a ban was warranted.
I have been finding it difficult to know how to respond to the situation, because of those deleted posts. In their absence, there is nothing I can see which justifies the ban.
In the future, my suggestion to mods and admins would be that deleting such posts may not be the best course of action. If the rest of the community could read an offending post(s), we might at least understand the reason for a member being banned (whether or not we agree with the ban). But if the posts are deleted, the ban can look like a whim or a power play. And that only weakens your position.
The forum isn't a democracy, and I don't suggest that it should be. But it is a community; and when you're dealing with high-profile members, the community needs to understand why the harsh action has been taken. And as things are now, it's really difficult for us to see your side of the thing.
---
On a different vein, pokerman123 makes a good suggestion. Temporary bans can be a good way of straightening out a situation without alienating others in the community. My husband mods a forum which makes extensive use of temporary bans (ranging from one day to one year) before resorting to a permanent ban, because they've found that perma-bans tend to complicate the problem rather than solving it.
