Good Morning All,

Many high level players find that research points are nearly useless in the game. Once the lab is fully upgraded and base requirements reduced to energy, we simply us them as a padding for our credit income. The usage of them in the legion missions is an improvement, but I still abandon a research planet every 12 hours to change it to even a lower rarity artifact planet. We will share a barely defended 18x Collasal Plasma and it will go ignored, because it simply is not worth it.

I am hoping to start a discussion on possible uses for research points that will make those planets worth more.

1.) Investing them to get artifact caches. Much like a base crate, you get a chance at getting a high level item planet flux, etc, but more often will be something less than stellar. Investing in higher level caches get you a higher chance of a higher level item.

2.) Base upgrades- Investing enough research points provide a small % bonus to a stat on the base at random. This would require significant amount of research points, but can improve everything from base output, attack/defense, etc etc.

3.) Improve specific planets- Enough scientists thrown at a planet that is poorly terraformed will help improve size, output, defense, cloak, etc etc. I think it should be random, but a great investment in low level planets that dont quite deserve that terraformer.

Throw out your ideas here!

We're definitely over-due for something else to use research points on other than extra credits.
I'd like to see any one or even all of those ideas implemented into the game in some form. While we're at it why not add in ship module research, some hugely expensive (research point wise) artifact that will let you upgrade certain modules in say 10% increments.

And on that same note we could use more missions or things to do with research points that would apply towards the Eureka or In Your Infinite Wisdom medals which are incredibly difficult for a lot of us to do unless you want to make your own base or spend lots of time out of legion.

What if there was another ability like the "Research Contract" called an "Excavation Contract" unlocked at 100m total research which would convert the research points into artifact points at a 5:1 ratio? (100k research converts to 20k artifacts)

I'd be happy selling research for EM as well.
