I would like to emulate space entities. Find a choice enemy planet, park yourself in orbit, steal some of their production.

Some ideas about mechanics:
  • Obviously you would only be able to blockade one planet at a time, and would not be able to blockade an enemy planet and guard another planet.
  • Button would be something like "Set up blockade" that would use some reasonably large amount of energy
  • You would show up on the enemy ship's ship log (alertable?) upon starting the blockade and also on their BT until you were disabled (by anyone, even yourself because you didn't count on that gemini cannon), ending the blockade
  • only one ship could set up a blockade at a time around a given planet
  • new timer for blockades
  • reduce enemy planet's production by some percentage, and receive part of that in your hourly production until the blockade is ended

Cannot blockade invincible planets.

It is a nice way to taunt enemy players lol, even better if they can't do anything about it :P

^ This

Plus your ship gets the contested penalty and every day you get a stackable -20% attack and defense debuff (like exotica). Only removed once you are disabled (and so end the blockade).

Once disabled, there's a 1 day to 1 week cooldown before re-blocking the planet again.

1. blockade should be traded in the same way as guarding planet, that is to say can be attacked and disabled even if zeroed
2. blockade should count as an offensive action, possibly granting a multiple of hack/raid actions which will allow the owner of the planet to "reclaim resource" so to speak. (and because it's an offensive action, you can't halc/amp up and therefore the enemy can use ur raid/hack actions)

+1, with a few comments:

* Ships that blockade enemy planets should be available for alerts, since this is an offensive action.
* But ships that alert enemy planets should also be able to have their legions blockade the planet, too. If this piece is implemented, maybe the planet owner can alert their own planet, so their legion can attack the blockade legion.
* Ships that disable enemy blockades should receive a minor reward, like an NPC blockade. But not too good, as this can possibly be abused.
* Legions that have ANY diplomatic pacts (not just NAPs) should not be allowed to blockade their diplomatic partners (to prevent abuse).

I'm interesting in some of Swifty's points as well, particularly this one:

This would be fun!

I have an Massive Irradiated on my scans that is owned by an inactive high ranker. It is too well defended for me to take but I can blockade as much as I like since he's inactive.

+1 to the original concept, but this idea i really like, it is a big step towards a proper legion war system

i think this is a good idea and the additions/limitations should be factored in as able.

I do think a blockade should count as a attack only on the original day for purposes of soft flux timetables, but thats just me like the soft flux ability.
