For EDIT: 5 energy, you can send a comm to another players ship that can be only seen by you and that player. (And Dan, of course)
That way, you can keep private comm conversations, instead letting the whole galaxy know.
These would obviously be blocked/deleted the same way as normal ones.

I think it's a great idea. Plus you could use it to keep notes to yourself.

if you are going to do it, better color code the comms so you will know which is secret and which not.
otherwise sounds +1

I like Fear's idea of color coding the comms so +1 to that and the op.

+1 to the OP and Fear's idea of color coding it.

Curious as to why it should cost 10 energy instead of 5?

The idea for the elevated cost is because you get an added feature that you would not normally get from a ship-to-ship Comm, so it should cost something more. +1 to both the color-coding and the OP. It would make it quite a bit easier to make notes (as said by ODragon), and you could say whatever you wanted to say without fear of it being seen.

I see it as more analogous to different flavors of ice cream. You may pick mint chip or pecan praline and you'll pay the same price since the ice cream is the main part of the cost. The different ingredients for the different flavor and color only marginally affect the production costs, so you are not charged different amounts based on that. For ship comms, my understanding is that they cost energy to minimize spamming of comms (not sure about that, but it's what I've heard). I don't see how private comms are doubly dangerous and therefore need double the inhibiting cost.

Like the idea, agree with ICBLF's comments about keeping the energy cost to 5.

pffah. fine, keep it at 5 energy.
since Dan is working on new battle market items, these can be 'smaller' ones in addition to the 'bigger' ones we hope he has in store. when used, each new arti affects the next ship comm posted:
1. diplomat ship: ship bot + dark badge: purple colour (and private)
2. emergency klaxon: crimson obelisk + red badge: red colour
3. translated broadcast: planetary vortex deflector + green badge: green colour
4. heightened sensitivity: containment missile + yellow badge: yellow colour
5. backdoor channels: quantum firewall trap + blue badge: blue colour
