Fast rankers aren't out to have a higher rank just to have a higher rank.
They are people who do a lot of stuff in game and get a lot of xp for it.

I could use this artifact and still auto rank as much as I wanted. I would just get a lot more done per rank and donate less to my base. Such an artifact is too overpowered.

How about upon usage of this artifact; 15% of your crew end up getting themselves killed by doing extremely stupid things as a result of the surge of mental retardation that the artifact causes?

If you want to slow rank, just do what I did for my first 100 levels (to get 4 dom 3s before reaching rank 100) and limit your ship to 1-2 reactors and 2 relays. "Natural slow ranking" as I called it.

yeah especially when lower ranks do it with 5k-20k ap per hour... thinking they are doing awesome with their 3-4 prisoners per day...nothing like missing out on the whole game..

do not forget the low ranks who are slow rankers have a better ship then all the people who start the game new and has these slow ranking players pounding on there ships non stop example chromozone slow ranks and beats on low ranking players yes part of the game to do battles but you are expecting to battle against people around your rank and roughly same style of a ship not a ship with 10k attack and defence and he only rank 200 this i high say -100 for it

Why do people always have to criticize how others play their game? If its the way they want to play then let them, its not like your loosing out or gaining anything from them.
Does not affect your style so let them be.

+1 Slow/freeze ranking is a strategy played by many so let them have something that helps their game style!

Here's my main criticisms on it:

1) "It's my playstyle, I can do what I want!" - Totally true. If someone's having fun, who am I to question it? Your level also determines your cohort of people you see regularly/fight and so forth. If you don't want to level past them, slow/freeze ranking makes some sense.

2) "It's strategy!" - This is my problem. It's a terrible, horrible, no-good strategy to freeze or slow-rank while at low rank. Your AP production sucks at low rank. I don't care what number it is, it still sucks. Freeze ranking at low level means you're spending weeks and months producing squat. Hoarding your vast wealth when *you don't have any* is not going to make you powerful. If you freeze at rank 200 with your mighty 5k artifact production, you'll get a little trickle of stuff over the course of many months. When you finally unfreeze, you'll get to rank 500 and think you're a big cheese because of all the hoarding you did. But the people at 500 have been building up AP the whole time, so they're sitting on 20k. They make in a month what you spent *four* months freezing to get. They're just as powerful as you, and you've gained nothing.

So if people freeze-rank because they think it's fun, they like to hang out with their friends, or other social/fun reasons, more power to 'em, enjoy yourselves. But it's just plain crazy to think of it as a good investment for the future. It's like a high schooler not thinking he needs to get a job because he gets a $5 allowance from his parents.

Yeah, no thank you... this CT Lab artifact can make NPCers kill more NPCs without gaining much EXP, meaning more Terraforming Device, Planet Flux, etc will be gained with very little ranks earned. It's good at it is, slow ranker or fast ranker.

if this gets denied shouldn't neural interfaces get removed. based on the perspective of a non fast or slow ranker people who use NI's get more npcs per day than me due to ranking more which equals more nrg for them. also they get planets faster than me because they hit the next rank requirement faster. both play styles have their own disadvantages. any way doesn't Dan not like the idea of people ranking slower :D

They only get more planets up to a certain point, after which they have to start being more careful about what planets they take as the costs skyrocket.

And they dont technically get more NPC's than you if they use Neurals, in fact they get fewer per rank. It just seems like more because while they go trough 3-4 ranks to your 1.
They may go on a run of 4 ranks, and end up with, for example 1000 NPC's per rank, where you would get 1150 at the same rank for not using the Neural. they might get more terraformers than you in 1 run, but you would get more per rank, giving you an advantage.

And i dont think Dan is against slow ranking, what he doesn't like is autoranking.
Of course, he could be against both.

Already explained, but where does this argument stem from?

I'm curious as to how one gets more energy for hitting more npc. I would love to know this secret.

This is relative seeing as how you either 1. scan for planets or 2. have them given to you. They may be able to hold more planets than you, that does not mean they can get better planets than you.

Lastly, never forget the galaxy frenemy, the notorious Random Number Generator(RNG). Some of us have better luck with the RNG than others, getting more of npc drop than someone else.

More ranking does however yield more energy relative to each others ranks. Npcing is the best ranking method so far, so it can go as to say that more artifacts comes from the fact that hitting more npc with the more energy you have from ranking more gives you more chances to find those npc that are valued so highly for their artifacts. Like having more darts to throw at a dart board to get a bullseye.

For those who've seen me, I do not slow rank intentionally. I do not play this game enough to plan everything to rank steadily and quickly.

sorry, but i'm going to have to -1 this. having a ct.lab design ONLY for slow.rankers is bad form.

here's my alternative:

Berzerker Fury Ampule

costs:
... 50 crimson obelisks
... 25 neural interface
... 10% of your energy bar

effects:
... duration 20 minutes
... 20% increased attack
... 75% decreased defense
... 15% less xp
... can not be used to progress on daily or repeatable missions

ehh ,I have a better idea, use a neural interface , wait until it runs out, then start using energy, this way you get 15% LESS exp than fast rankers. (use rsl too for enhanced effect)
