i've been toying with an idea for planet forging

some kind of artifact or process to allow you to combine 2 of your planets into one
it's size would be the size of the larger planet + 1
resources would be an average of the 2
and there would be a chance of moons or rings
initially you would only be able to combine the basic planets
both planets would have to be a year old and not have been attacked in a year
you would have to be rank 500+ with 500 medals

here are possible combinations for the basic planets :

desert + gas = barren
desert + barren = dust
desert + terra = oasis
desert + toxic = silica
desert + volcanic = diamond
desert + metallic = cube
desert + oceanic = mud
desert + icy = frost
gas + barren = toxic
gas + terra = fungus
gas + toxic = barren
gas + volcanic = sulphuric
gas + metallic = mechanical
gas + oceanic = steam
gas + icy = freon
barren + terra = desert
barren + toxic = volcanic
barren + metallic = ecumenopolis
barren + oceanic = terra
barren + icy = oceanic
terra + toxic = barren
terra + volcanic = ash
terra + metallic = biomechanical
terra + oceanic = atlantean
terra + icy = taiga
volcanic + metallic = mercurial
volcanic + oceanic = obsidian
volcanic + toxic = pulsar
volcanic + icy = gas
toxic + metallic = plutonium
toxic + oceanic = acidic
toxic + icy = gas
oceanic + metallic = rust
oceanic + icy = slush
metallic + icy = lead

advanced planet forging can be accessed after rank 1000 with 1000 medals

some possible combinations for advanced planet forges :

aphotic + ecumenopolis = shadow city
aphotic + gaia = dark jungle
aphotic + sentient = ghost
aphotic + irradiated = black hole
aphotic + demon = hell
aphotic + plasma = quantum
ecumenopolis + gaia = sylvan
ecu + sentient = cyber
ecu + irradiated = undead
ecu + demon = forged
ecu + plasma = dyson
gaia + sentient = angelic
gaia + irradiated = mutant
gaia + demon = charcoal
gaia + plasma = photosynthetic
sentient + irradiated = chaotic
sentient + demon = devil
sentient + plasma = amoeba
irradiated + demon = quasar
irradiated + plasma = nuclear
demon + plasma = exotic

the new planet types obviously would have to be fleshed out

so what do you guys think so far ?

So I can get my crap 2x VM gas to 15x combined them with a desert and get a MC toxic at potentially 5x? is that right?

Also what would all of these look like? I mean if each planet has 5 images...that's going to be like another 200 images to cover all these.

Can't say I see the point.

You've got a nice planet and a crap planet, you combine them and get a meh planet

all this appears to encourage is the long term colonization of really poor planets for a year, before you can get any use out of them...

sounds like someone maybe has a good number of really crappy planets, but can't afford/doesn't want to abandon them all

Suddenly the value of planetary time vortexes goes through the roof.

MC 22x Oceanic w/ Very Tiny 20x volcanic (terraformers + 5 crystals) = MFLAHSTLC 21x Obsidian Planet with possible large moons? Seems overrated to me... MFLAHSTLC planet has 87 space (MC = 81; 81 + 6 = Next tier)... 87 * 1.2 = 104 (104.4 rounded down) = DAMN THAT'S MASSIVE

P.S: MFLAHSTLC = Mega F***ing Large A** Holy S**t that's Large Colossal

i don't have very many crap planets lol

also the size would still cap at colossal

it's just a rough idea , but i kinda like the thought of combining 2 planets to free up a slot for a new planet instead of abandoning one

desert + gas = barren
barren + terra = desert

gas + barren = toxic
toxic + icy = gas

gas + barren = toxic
terra + toxic = barren
OR gas + toxic = barren

barren + oceanic = terra
terra + toxic = barren

Given enough time....(or PtV)
are we looking at size 99999999999999999999999999 planets?

I like the basic idea but not how it's presented here.

Maybe a CTL print that lets you "relocate" a Very Tiny or Tiny planet and turn it into a "small moon" for a Massive, Very Massive or Colossal planet. Once the planet is moved it is removed from the planet list and no other RT effect can be added to the planet. Kinda like a poor mans RT and a way to remove very crappy planets from the scan list.

It probably won't be added since it gives people a chance for (perhaps the worst RT effect) for free. But it would a welcome addition since it would force new planets to be added more often.

Could be very good in keeping people that don't want to spend RL money on GP playing.

+1 to this modification ... but you don't need the restriction on the size of the planet where the moon ends up.

because GP is not being spent though, i think there should be a chance that the tiny planet implodes instead. you still free up a slot ...

the recipe would of course include elements like:

x star chart purgers (for the planet slot)
x unstable wormhole emitters (for the possible move to become a moon)
x space elevators (for the increased space to the resulting planet)
x omicron mine traps (for the possibility of planetary implosion)

the original idea seems like a whole lot of effort for something that would need to be changed to be weaker. kinda pointless imo

x omicron mine traps (for the possibility of planetary implosion)

The basic idea was that these are planets so that the for a very tiny or tiny planet to become a moon the parent planet would have to be Massive or bigger. If Dan would allow it, the same artifact could create "Large Moons" for planets ranging from Massive to Mega Colossal by using the artifact twice and linking 2 Very Tiny or Tiny planets to a single parent planet.

I kinda like the idea of imploding a planet. Relocate and then destroy a Very Small or Small planet around a planet Average size or larger to create "Planet Rings". The parent planet could be a little smaller for rings than it would have to be for a moon. Would require a different artifact to implode the planet, Also a decent CTL item idea. Probably would require X Thetacron Mines, X Omicron Mines, X Unstable Wormhole Emitters.

The one downside is that more than likely you would have to "control the planet" before you could move it as a moon or destroy it for rings. So you have to do a scan run, colonize a crappy planet and then choose what your doing with it, and then once its a moon or rings, it's no longer on your scan list or controlled planet list because it's not a planet anymore. Could be expensive for people with a lot of planets already but it's not suppose to be easy or cheap to do.

I like the idea of more planets, but I don't think every kind of planet should be combinable, only certain ones, otherwise we end up with 646436436736 planets.

I also really like the idea of relocating a small planet to a moon as a CTLab artifact.

I think a good idea would be 70% success rate, 20% chance of lost planet or planet imploding, and 10% of planet crashing onto host planet(destroys a standard structure)
