This is aimed at the higher-end guys more than anything. Suppose you want to streamline your ship and reduce your incoming damage cap. A repeatable mission like the one that produces star chart purgers so you can lower your total decks. Since not all decks come from command points though, demo'ed decks would just go away.

Ship Re-engineering: remove 1 rank point worth from any category, give 1 free use rank point. Slow re-spec method. Repeatable mission with no end. Uses tech parts. Something like 50 energy and 1 tech part, 10 runs gives the artifact that does this.

i like this. it would eliminate the regret some higher levels might feel. i know i will probably thankful for it when i get to that point.

The only problem I see is if Dan has not tracked Rank points vs. ship bots or other artifacts that increase stats, then you could remove effective rank points to "turn everything into <decks, engineers, etc>" from any artifact that increases any stat, for example android bonus could be turned into decks. However, since the mission requires energy and tech parts, there is a limitation on doing it. If rank point choices vs. other bonuses are stored, then it's not a problem; you just limit the amount that can be taken out.

+1 With BinaryMan's Ship Re-engineering: remove 1 rank point worth from any category, give 1 free use rank point.

Yeah, this would definitely make people like Mass Storage Pods a lot more.

Good idea Tho make the mission take more energy and complex parts.

Yeah... I guess that means a mass storage pod is worth 12 rank points isn't it ? That might be an issue, although the cost is in line with other artifacts, you can get 3 rank points for 4k AP after all (prisoners), so 20k for 12 is similar. Dan might want to exclude cargo from this, although I don't see to much reason to prohibit anything because it takes a lot of energy and tech parts to move a lot of rank points, and is probably in proportion to how fast a person is tending to gain AP and thus things that boost the ship anyway. We could tack on the mission to the tech parts mission chain. It also gives unlimited life to using tech parts ("never useless") because you can do this whenever you want the reconfigure.

While that is true, and I do like the idea well enough, they shouldn't rely on this to fix the problem of tech parts becoming useless, just because not everybody would want to do this.

Actually, rethinking it, they might, thanks to Mass Storage Pods, but I'd still say they should come up with other uses for the tech parts as well.

Yeah... I'm mainly trying to think in advance of some way this can be abused, due to being able to take out rank points in certain areas and move them to others does it disturb the balance ? Although, even if a mass storage pod gives you 12 rank points worth of cargo, you have to do 12 rounds of the mission to actually re-allocate it; this means using up energy. If the energy/xp ratio is similar to other repeatable missions, I don't see to much of a problem with it. Same as with the purger mission, you can get a lot of new planets eventually, but it will take a lot of energy. I think even with new tech parts missions being added, there needs to be at least one repeatable mission that uses them.

+1 to the repeatable mission.
