Some of us, especially the higher rankers get a little over analytical re data about our planets and such.

Most of us, myself included, WON'T do offsite databases - its just too much effort to be honest.

However, what if there was a function in game that would let you enter note(s) on a planet in your scan?

It can cost energy, which will be a bonus in that it uses up more energy the higher ranked you are in there are a greater # of planets you will likely enter notes on.

Doesn't matter if its only one entry or multiple - set it for a max character space, with the same energy charge each time its used, those who want to keep the old info in will just cut n paste as it were.

Now you would know what you had and lost if the planet is stolen somehow. Otherwise it just works in terms of recordkeeping which is nice.

great game as always either way.

I actually like this idea. But I can only see it as being an absolute NIGHTMARE for Dan to implement which would no doubt cause him at least one agonizing headache.

I am no coder to be honest BUT if he can set up a planet name change for galaxy points surely he can use similar code on this relatively easy no?

Ideally I'd like to see some sort of filterable notes field. But even just a notes field would be nice.

+ 1 I've wanted something just like this I can't remember how many times. I'd be very happy to see this implemented in whatever form.

That is basically a simple change to a single piece of information in the database.

What you are suggesting is a new field in the Planet Database of variable size, that from the suggestion appears to be viewable by anyone with the planet on scan. The size of the database would balloon and probably cause unexpected issues, possible glitching, and the note portion would quickly become larger than all the planet information making it the largest part of the database. This would also increase the problem with scan lag that a number of people seem to have. If he could find an elegant way to do this without causing any of the aforementioned problems then i would be all for it, but I don't see that happening.

Assuming that planet scans are tracked by a table linking ShipIds to PlanetIds, then it is simple a new column on that table, but viewable only by the Ship linked there. Say it could store 200 chars, little more room that twitter, but not going crazy, at 1000 planets that's at most 200K more info per ship. Given even 50K ships using it maxed at that level that's only 10MB more DB storage.

The bigger problem is the scan lag (and planet flagging) which would be made worse. Honestly though, that's already an existing and severe problem that should be fixed.
