We need to do more to keep the new players around, this is just an idea to give new players a starting platform and keep them around longer.

nothing overpowered but they would unlock an artifact with a very easy beginner mission that shares them 10 planets.

10 random planets
2 mining (very large, and a random richness between rich and extremely rich)(volcanic planets)
4 research (A random size of Massive or Very Massive, and rich in production)(all gas planets)
4 artifact (A random size of large or very large and a random richness of rich to extremely rich)(either icy or desert)

Planets would be unlike any other planets and can be scanned etc.

Comments and support appreciated

This is a great idea! Too often, you find players at rank 50-100 who took the first five small, barren planets they came across because they simply didn't know any better at the time. They have virtually no production and are getting pounded relentlessly by SSB resets whose "starter packs" include a slew of 15-17x planets they had their friends hold onto before dropping back to level 1. These players feel hopeless, and for good reason -- once they've finally figured out the game, the only way they can get a "fair shot" is reset and lose all the time they put in, or get lucky on a few scan runs and spend GP to drop their garbage planets.

Your idea isn't overpowered, would mitigate a good deal of the early "oops!" colonizations, and it subtly reinforces the importance of size/production. Good stuff :)

+1 would've been more useful then the Average Abundant Barren I colonized as my first planet, and the subsequent bleh planets I colonized.

I'm definitely all for those who are starting out and need a little help. I think maybe make the planets unshareable, but allow them to be scanned by other players.

Definitely a +1 from me.

+1 to this idea, but it really needs a lot of details to go through - the mission details (not including story is fine)

Cheers for all the support, everything could be adjusted etc.
The main idea which everyone is getting is trying to give the new players more incentive to stick around.

big +1 from me, anything to help out the lower ranks and keep new players interested and competitive is cool with me.

Yep, I think anything to help and encourage new players without being too OP is a great idea.

YES, because from all the stories I've been told by new players, one of the worst parts is scanning crap planets initially, and also the fact that the base amount to scan is so low and it takes quite awhile to get the scan tech to really find anything unless getting help. Many find this discouraging at the beginning.

Honestly, this is the best idea I read in Suggestions & Ideas in a while :)
If I could make a suggestion - Have each of the 10 planets different or a least look different !
It would appear better for a noob and Barren, Volcanic, Gas, Desert, Icy, Toxic and Oceanic are all fairly common anyway.
Maybe 1 of either Metallic, Sentient or Crystal, depending on your Homeworld.

Something race specific as your "Homeworld" same stats of course 8-)

Aerlen - Sentient
Human - Terra
Inergon - Plasma
Konqul - Demon
Sillix - Toxic
Vygoid - Ecumenopolis

Obviously no Exotic, Aphotic, Irradiated, Gaia, Dyson or Rift initially.

Not to rag on your suggestion but thats hardly fair, as some races get a pretty bad planet, cygal.

Sillix should get the BEST planet because the race is terrible, REALLY terrible.... in the end everyone wants artifact, no one is going to complain if everyone got the Terra, People might complain if they get the stuiped plazma/demon/toxic. which tends to have little or no artifact value.

i think the original post is the best idea. this is a great start up for new players. this along with a better tutorial should be included in the game.

+1 I like it

but would do a slightly difrent mix of planets and eliminate the random factor a bit

mining (2)
1 very large volcanic, mining extremely rich
1 very large Toxic, mining rich

Recearch (2)
2 Very Massive gas - Recearch between rich and extremely rich

Artifact (2)
1 very large Ice, artifact betwen rich to extremely rich
1 very large desert, artifact betwen rich to extremely rich

Mining / Recearch (2)
2 Massive Metalic, Mining rich and Recearch rich

Mining / artifact / recearch (2)
1 Massiv Oceanic, mining Extremely Abundant, artifact rich , recearch Extremely Abundant
1 very large Barren, mining rich, artifact rich, Recearch rich

that would give 2 plannets for each production type, and 4 planets you can customize to what you need, depending on what other planets you are lucky enougth to scan

Something like this could work also. My main idea was to give the new players a good starting platform without being OP and giving them an understanding on what planets they should go for in the future. The use of metallic planets instead of gas or volcanic could be seen as a little bit OP as they can have two reasonably high productions (mining and research).

if we were to work metallic planets into the pool of random planets it could be something like this:
10 random planets (minimum of 2 mining, 4 research and 4 artifact worlds) would be pulled from the follow pools:

Dual planets (counts as both 1 mining and 1 research world):
Metallic planet - A random size of Massive or Very massive and a random mining and research richness between rich and extremely rich.

Mining planets:
Volcanic planet - Always very large, and a random richness between rich and extremely rich.

Research planets:
Gas planet - A random size of Massive or Very Massive, and rich in production.

Artifact planets:
Either a Icy or Desert planet - A random size of Large to Very Large, and a random richness between rich and extremely rich.

Post subject:  Re: Planet starter packs for new players.

I dont think Metalic planets are OP, as you cant transform them into anything else then a Mission dyson, and you only get 1 of those

main reason I'm sugesting the dual metalic planets is, if the player is lucky and scan a good Very Massive gas
they can switch the metalic from recearch to mining instead
it wont be as good as a Toxic you can upgrade to x16 (mining) or a Very Massive gas you can later turn into a x17 (recearch) plasma planet, but to start with it gives you more options to adapt the planets you get from this starter pack to what you are lucky enougth to scan

also personaly, I think they would be better of with 2 Toxic planets instead of 2 Volcanic
problem is the only way to upgrade Volcanic planets is the myralai ability and teraformers
so if/once they start killing NPC's they might regret colonizing 2 Volcanic instead of getting 2 easy to upgrade to x 15 to 16 Toxic planets

but that is just a teknicality...
I realy like your idear about giving new players 10 good planets asap so they have some ok planets to work with
presicely what they get, isn't as importained as giving tham a good start in the game

Definitely like the idea, but I really don't think it would help keep people interested in the game all that much. People enjoy the game for many different reasons. Some like an active comm and getting to know people, some like to be virtual bullies and beat things up, some like to talk like pirates, some like the mathematical aspects, some just like to play space games. The one's like me and several others on this forum that are complete addicts of the game enjoy it for a whole host of different reasons and could care less about the crappy starting planets we all had. I would seriously doubt that any number of decent starting planets would get people to stick with the game for years. But even with that said I still think the idea is a good one and would make the game better for new players.
