I propose missions that allow indefinite manufacture of chosen artifacts. A cadre of engineers could potentially analyse a machine, learn how it is made, and produce copies. Thus I propose that this could work in Galactic Legion, considering that we have very very competent engineers.
It would work like this, per kind of artifact:
Mission 1: Research an artifact; Each round requires 1 copy of the artifact, an expenditure of research points, and energy. Your engineers disassemble the artifacts, probe the inner workings, and when the mission is completed the engineers can now manufacture new ones. One completion is needed, but may take many rounds.
Mission 2: Manufacture the artifact: Each round requires a selection of minerals or other raw materials, money, and energy. Per completion, one copy of the artifact is produced. There is no cap to number of completions.
Naturally, the rank or other requirements to unlock the missions, number of copies of the artifact to analyse, amount of research expended, raw materials for manufacture, and energy required would scale up according to power of the artifact. It may require, say, for a Terraforming Device, Rank 500, 50 copies, and millions of RP to develop the technology, and to manufacture it takes 100 of each mineral and Exotic Matter and a billion credits per turn for 50 turns for each device. Even higher materials, possibly dropped from NPCs, may need to be implemented, like high-tensile nanofiber to build a Space Elevator.

nice idea, but will never come into action.
People would use and abuse it, by getting mutliple copies of rescue prisoners and fluxes. making them strong. and then what about people who buys energy as well, would it be cheaper than buying a flux or artifact? wouldn't people get others to pay to the minerals.
Theres to many ways this will get abused, so i do not support.

Yeah, I think they've got a good system in place already. They can put in missions to let you trade in artifacts for others, but it's all controlled and specific.

I would have to say no to the manufacturing of artifact idea, because as was already stated it would be very easy to be abused. Now the idea of being able to trade for artifacts I do like. As to how this idea would be instated I don't know. I think this would have to be set up through the legion station/planet system if that ever comes out. Maybe a tech tree to research for being able to trade for more and more artifacts, or a mission to establish ties with certain trade groups.

There are artifact blueprints now. Once you gain the blueprint from the mission, you can build unlimited number of them. Also, at higher levels, there are repeatable missions for artifacts, for star chart purgers and for a type of planet flux. The planet flux mission is at the end of a chain and the flux is only good for planets that haven't been attacked in a week. So in effect, your idea has been implemented in a smaller way.

Of course you couldn't use it with Rescued Prisoners. You would... dissect them to build more? That makes no sense.

the only artifacts i think you should be able to research are the unlockable ones like omicron mines and mutagenic cartriges. after these are created 5 times on repeatable missions, or completed if the mission ends, then i think they should be added to the artifact draw at the same rarity as their componants.

This. Mutagenic cartridges, Chron buildings, the melters / gaia seeds (especially if you lose your transformed planets), etc. To balance it out, you can only have up to the mission amount of items. For example, you can only build or artifact shipment 5 mutagenic cartridges at any time. No stockpiling. As for the planet changing artifacts- only can get them if you have less than 10 owned crystal planets or 5 owned gaia planets. For ice melters, there's tons of icy + oceanics floating around out there so if you can only stockpile 5 melters, it won't really make a difference. There's far fewer Gaia's, Crystals, Sentient, Aphotics, etc. though.
