 Variable Hull/Shield Weapons

Just had a random thought that it might be fun to have a weapons that has a different attack power depending on whether it's hitting shields or hull. Some more powerful against one, some against the other.

Want to load up on shield weapons then switch to hull weapons once they're down? Go for it, but you'll have to pay to repair the weapons.

Probably been suggested already, but hey, here it is!

Interesting thought. Not opposed at all, but we kind of have that in a way already. With Krio torpedos you essentially accomplish bypassing shields.

Maybe if there were diff types of shields and weapons affected them differentially? Kind of like having say lasers/ discs/ force projectiles/ etc. So each weapon would have a diffential scale of effectiveness against certian types of shields. Although i could see where implementing and tracking this could be very hard, plus coding for items already in place.

Your idea wouldn;t be that hard to implement and is better, but then what items would be better against which..and would all shields be the same? Also if people could choose more hull effective weapons, then with the high abundance of krios i think it might slant things.

PvP aside, there really needs to be more differentiation on NPC shield and hull. Now, some of the newer elite does make a distinction in that you can target parts once you get the shield down, and TOs always had that one limited artifact you can use. But for vast majority of NPCs, there is still no difference between hull and shield. This could be a start.

I remember one time pitching an idea for a similar weapon that had extra attack power against shields and ended up hearing that due to how the game was programmed it would be impossible to implement something these.
