I'm not certain if this has been brought up before so forgive my ignorance if it has. But is there any possibility of belonging to a 'faction'? I know there aer legions and thats great and all, but what about signing on as a mercenary for the Zolazin, or becoming an independant bounty hunter for the Dark Smugglers Guild, or being a transport ship for The Mylarai Mining Guild. With each faction having reputation levels that you can earn, special artifacts that you could get, certain quests that you can go on depending on yoru faction rating. and also faction hatreds, which prevent you from going on certain quests for other factions who may or may not hate your current faction.

Again, just an idea.

We already have races and professions, but if you are talking about sub professions of the professions, I like this idea.

Well I mean like. I'm a Human miner lets say. That gives me a ship bonus, and a race bonus right. Now I go on some missions, I shoot some other ships, etc. Then i decide to align myself with a 'faction', whether I am that race or not, to gain reputation with them. They in turn grant me access to certain missions, etc.

So not so much sub-proffessions, more like alliances with NPC groups. I may be a Madalorian<race> Bounty hunter<profession>. Which makes me kick ass and look cool, but then I can also align myself with The Empire, thereby getting special missions to track down wayward smugglers who join said Rebel Alliances. That beign the case, the Human<race> Smuggler<proffession> who alleis with The alliance doesn't get access to that mission tree, he does however gain access to his own to destroy the D-Star. And in turn the Mandolorian Bounty hunter doesn't get access to that D-star mission.

Make sense?

Yes...this sounds cool, although it would probably cause some division if there were wars and stuff between such groups, because people in legions would be with their enemies.

Other than that, it's a great idea. I would love to see this implemented.

that is a good idea.....you could also have it where the leader of legions chose who they are affiliated with.....i mean thats what leaders are for, to make descisions. and you can only join legion of which are affiliated with your group or whose affiliated NPC group is at peace with yours........and you can change who you are affiliated with but there has to be draw backs

So a Legion would pledge to a faction, and in doing so give you access to certain missions for rep within that faction. And as you levelled you would gain access to more bonuses.
For example:

The Mylari Mining Guil
Rep 1: +2% mining, Rep 2: +4% mining, Rep 3: +6% mining, Rep 4: +8% mining
Rep 5: Mylari Strip Mine(size 2, Bonus 4, Cost 5k)

Rogue Science League
Rep 1: +2% research, Rep 2: +4% research, Rep 3: +6% research, Rep 4: +5% research
Rep 5: Rogue Science Lab(Size 2, Bonus +4 research, Cost 5k)

The Stryll Order
Rep 1: +5% scan, Rep 2: +10% scan, Rep 3: +15% scan, Rep 4: +20% scan
Rep 5: Stryll Scanner(size 20, Bonus +100, Cost 2k)

The Terran Outsiders
Rep 1: +5% shields, Rep 2: +10% shields, Rep 3: +15% shields, Rep 4: +20% shields
Rep 5: Terran Outsider Shield (Size 20, Bonus +233, Cost 30k)

How would you incorporate this with already existing players? this would be simple for new players but new things being thrown into the miz might confuse Veterans, I'm not saying this is a bad idea, so dont take it that way, in fact i think its a great idea.

well, only the leaders would choose who the legion was affiliated with. it would be like choosing an emblem for ur legion. although i would hope there would be bonuses to attack for the crimson blades, bonus to cargo for dark smugglers, bonus to decks for the lazuli, bonus to cloak for shadin, and defense for the drannik.

If there were a drannik faction, they might have an artifact bonus.

There was a thread about government types that I thought was pretty neat and functioned similarly.

I've seen a facebook game that had a profession tree, that was kind of neat in a similar sort of way. It was based on stats mostly, so it wouldn't be quite as fun to introduce retroactively when you would already have a lot of them available if not all and you wouldn't base your strategy around any goal if you had already achieved it.

Cant the whole 'reputation with factions' part be independent of any legion activities? Why not be able to gain rep simply by doing things for those factions? It doesnt have to be necessary to lose rep to opposing factions because of it nor have to have anything to do with legions at all.

I like the idea, but as for the legion leader choosing, well, let's say I want to be lazuli, and the leader wants to be stryll. What then? I'd want to be lazuli, but I wouldn't want to leave my legion to be it. I like the idea for players to do stuff for a NPC faction, but keep it just that. Don't let there be wars between each other. Keep it so you just do missions for them or attack a NPC from another faction, but no fighting between players.

I assume it has to do with nerves and gas, however, I think that if this was implemented, people could side with a faction, and everybody in a legion had a faction, but it wouldn't affect your legion membership. (Too much at least.) It would just be that wars and stuff, you might have to fight your legion members, and they wouldn't get the same bonuses and stuff. Otherwise, it would just be not good because everybody's legion would probably have to get split up.
