As many probably notice, this is getting out of hand. Many players are now using this tactic to keep death count low and its frustrating when you cant disable them back. I can already see comments saying, "But its an easy yellow".
An easy fix to this is to make it such that you will always have some hull left to the formula for the damage given by the NPC.
So (-60%(Hull+shield)) +500 Hull
That way you cant self disable, you cant attack the npc until a repair is perform.

They're punishing themselves by not completing the chain. I don't see why intervention is required.

There are multiple ways to disable yourself, be it through some seasonal bosses or through various mission chains.

It's a valid tactic to protect a meaningless stat. I don't think it's worth stressing over.

Because inducing anxiety, paranoia, and a host of other health issues related to sleep deprivation in those who obsess over their death count is one of the only pleasures remaining in GL for some of us?

Don't be a grinch, dude.
