I don't like the idea of adding random guys as my friend on FB so I can get bonuses in a game. I think there should be alliances. These would have a max on members so you couldn't join the biggest alliance and have 1000 legion members, and they wouldnt add legion bonus for planets.

Thats why I got Dan to put a cap on the legion bonus, as for alliances the idea of fleets(small groups of people) to accomplish group PVP/PVE has been suggested. Nothing implemented or ensured though.

Sry it took me so long to reply, but, that's not what I mean, I meant adding some new button in news or new tab that leads to a list of all alliances, then you can click on an alliance you like, and you can ask the alliance creator if you can join the alliance until you decide to leave, not a temporary fleet.

I think I know what Robert is asking for, and I agree that something like that would be cool some day.

An example that comes to mind is a game called Crime Wave. (formerly called The Streets.) In it, you could form or join a syndicate. This was a group of players within your larger alliance of game friends and opened up bonuses and different PvP options. Your syndicate could battle other syndicates, and it could increase in level which opened up special equipment as well as additional player slots. For example a level 1 syndicate could be be 6 people, and you get access to a syndicate vehicle. A level 5 syndicate might give you 40 members, more vehicles, special armor, and weapons. Balance vs different levels of syndicate wasa achieved by battle rank points awarded - you get more or less depending on who you beat in battle. It was very nicely done, and something similar to that would really fit the theme and feel of GL nicely!

Well id prefer that the size of your fleet were to stay below 15, but I like the idea of it. but ya we should get exactly what we want finalized so that we can give it to Dan and he can tell us what is and isnt possible to implement.

I had an idea of having both alliances and still keeping legions - but that would require an overhaul to complete an entirely new alliance system. I wish there was a global/legion chat so we could atleast talk to who we're allied to. For the most part legions mean "I can't attack you, you can't attack me, let's fight together... Though I don't really know you." I'd like there to be an alliance system - but keep the legion system. Allow each alliance to have a max number of players and let the alliances deal with themselves with off-site forums and alliance governments and whatnot. But keep the Legion bonuses and lack to attack each other even in enemy alliances (ever thought of un-friending someone on facebook just to be able to attack them?). I still think a basic global chat system would be a major improvement - you just need to talk to others playing the game and others you are allied to in-game and not on the forums.

So where as a legion would be like a "guild" (as alot of fantasy games call it) where its alot of people who usually are only really acquaintances that work together from time to time. A fleet would be a small group of people that act as an organized unit doing either large scale PVE or PVP challenges. yes?

Yeah I totally agree. You can't attack your legion members - but your alliance mates become your true friends. Your alliance works together to form a common goal - a common team. Alliances could setup off-site alliance forums with flags and main leadership. Each alliance's goal would be the success of each of their members. Legions would just be a non-aggression treaty between two players - and a chance to attack together if willing. Alliances would be controlled by their elected/dictator leadership and do things together in a much more organized and personal way. I think the game should support the formation of true alliances with atleast a basic alliance system so that real alliances can atleast have a strong chance of being realistic.

Exactly what I wanted. Two examples of alliances in FB games that I love are Kingdoms of Camelot and Starfleet Commander. In Starfleet Commander there was a list of alliances each with members ranging from 1000 something(New Hope, which I am a part of, if you read my sig I didnt join United Federation of Planets because they rejected me) to 1 member. You would send a request to them asking to join and when an officer(get to that later) accepts your invite you join the alliance and have access to their message board, which is like a forum. The alliance creator, which is called a chancellor in Kingdoms, I forgot what it was for SC(I think Admiral or just maybe Leader), would appoint officers that would have different abilities in alliance based on rank(Like accept or decline alliance join requests, kick players, or promote players). You can also form group attacks in what is called a formation, I havent joined one yet but I know you can. And you can declare war on other alliances, my alliance is in a war with UniMat0. In Kingdoms of Camelot it works the same way to get in, but instead of a forum there is a chat system that works much like Star Trek Online's. And you can send messages to everyone in the alliance at once. You can trade stuff with other members. But you cannot join group attacks(not that I know of). You can attack alliance members I think(That would get you most likely kicked out). Recently in that game I was attacked by someone and gave the guys coordinates to a fleet member thru the chat system, and he sent a warning message to the guy. So you can share a guys position just like in GL, but it lasts as long as the guy remembers the coords or removes the bookmark if he put one, which I dont think Dan would like. The only thing I didnt like bout SC's alliance system was that the message board was so cluttered and unorganized. There were so many players in the alliances that as soon as you posted a new tthread, bout 200 people will respond within an hour. So I also think that there should be a limit. Kingdoms limit was 100, which I think is good. PHEW, first long post. Thx for reading this far.
P.S. like my new sig?

ok so from what I can tell we have 2 ideas for fleets/alliances watev

Put in World of Warcraft terms we have...

Deathmuffin's idea, which would be the equivalent of a "raid team", low person count focusing on just hangin out with your best buds taking names and kickin azz. = "Fleet" idea

Robert's idea, which would be the equivalent of a "guild", large group of people thats organized that is dedicated to making things awesome for those within the alliance. = "Alliance" idea

Now personally Id like to see Fleets implemented, and instead of Alliances , just add more organization to Legions because they seem to be almost the same thing, aside from the level of organization. But If were were to try and implement both at the same time without adjusting the current Legion system we could have Fleets join up to become Alliances sorta of like squads in a battalion.

I think there should be another form of joining legions or "guilds" or "alliances". And in my OP, I said that the alliance wouldnt add legion bonus, only actual freinds would.
And there would be differences in legions and alliances. So, actual FB freinds would add legion bonus to planets, there can be an unlimited number of them(Tho I dont think you have an unlimited number of freinds), since they are youre actual freinds they wont take yur shared planet. Alliances would have a message board(advice on the game, a forum), can join "fleets" to do fleet battles or something, but would be limited(I suggested 100 members), and they have rules so are organized. Both alliances and legions can help you hammer guys you hate, both can share planets and enemies with each other, and both can trade resources. Keep current legions the same, just add organized, advice giving, fleet battleing alliances :P

Im still not seeing the difference other then organization. The sizes are around the same for alot of players and thusly weather or not people wanted to have only their friends playing many would still use this in the same way they use a legion.

I mentioned in another post or thread about Kingdoms of Camelot because of their great messaging system. Where it could organize news, posts, communications, and alliances (if they were used).

Second, I mentioned in another post/thread that using alliances would allow help from people who don't have to be your FB friends.

And third, I agree more with the 'Fleet' idea of small teams, as it fits better in the theme and feel of Galaxy Legion.
