This is an idea my legion was kicking around. I don't take credit, there were several folks in AU who were brainstorming this:

Currently, your cloaking protects people from seeing the modules on your ship. So, the enemy adds scanners or hits you with the positron and gets a sneak peek. But, what if there was a way to add more subterfuge? What if you could purposefully send out misinformation? We are suggesting an artifact you could get from a mission or NPC that projects a hologram and sends false data to any enemy scanning your ship. What if you looked 3 times bigger than you actually were... or what if you looked bare naked with a couple of heavy singularities, but you were actually armed to the teeth? While I realize that some folks don't bother reviewing the enemy ship, they just open fire, there are a lot of smart players who take the time and calculate what they are up against. This might add a bit more spice and challenge. As with all things, there would need to be a way to counter it I suppose... (forcing people to use positrons or come up with another scanning module that off sets this one). We leave that to your imaginations. Feel free to comment.

Deception Field Generators Mark I- Disguises Race and Profession
Deception Field Generators Mark II- Disguises Weapons Systems
Deception Field Generators Mark III- Disguises Defensive Systems

Hyperflux Duplicity Device I- Sends False Data about Combat Rep, Kills, Deaths
Hyperflux Duplicity Device II - Sends False Data about Planets Scanned, Captured, Occupied
Hyperflux Duplicity Device III - Sends False Data about Missions Completed, Hacks, Raids

As another interesting twist, it would be great to have these on your planets too!
-Lies about population
-Lies about attack /defensive structures
-Lies about resources available!

Fun, Fun, Fun

Whilst I didn't refer to modules, I asked for this feature several months ago. My system was to have it so that when your scan level was too low, but only by a small amount, you would see some of the enemy modules, but you wouldn't know the level of accuracy of what you were seeing, so the game could display the wrong modules. As your scan level increases vs the enemy's cloak though, you would be able to see more of the modules and the level of accuracy would increase.

It would be nice if this could be looked at again. I definitely like the idea of deception.

Yes that would be a good way of doing it. Currently, if the scan is too low it only reveals part of what the target ship has equipped. We have chatted more about it on our legion page. It really does have some great possibilities; especially as a planet devise. It is one thing to be cloaked... it is another to make your Massive Ocean look like a Small Barren!

OK, I'm good with the DFGs, especially Mk 2 & 3, but a couple things about the HDDs...
A-Is there really any advantage to hiding those particular stats?
B-Wouldn't that affect how a legion sees you when you apply? I know I take a look at a potential recruits stats before I accept or decline, and I doubt I'm the only Leader in the galaxy that does.

You make a great point, but I imagine anyone trying to enter into a serious legion would have to figure that "lying on your application" would be grounds for termination. So recruits would know to unequip the module (or it could be a timer effect- deception for a day). I would love to hear more thoughts. The potential on ships is ok, but the idea of fake data coming from a scanned world is sounding more and more awesome to me. And, the planet devise could work in either direction too... making a good planet look crummy, or a bad planet look awesome! Only after the invaders take it do they realize it is not worth what they thought... It too could have a timer; perhaps one week like the traps.

I too like this idea. i might use the DFG, but i have no use for the HDD... if i do use the DFG it would be the mk2 and 3. unless i was applying to a pacifist legion, then i might put the HDD up... lol.

You might want to consider modifying some things about it tho. Most people dont give a crap about how many kills, planets captured, raids or hacks the person has. what i look for specifically is defense, attack, hull, shields, and ship size. That is what i would like to be disguised. My race and profession would be ok to disguise i suppose, but unless theyre a konqul or a lazuli, i dont really care.

+1 to the DFG's all 3
+1 to the HDD mk1 only the other stats I would never look at in an opponent
