I was wondering if it was possible to read our planet data in an external program like Excel so we can do custom filters and sorts. That way I can do things like display all planets with research production > rich, etc., instead of looking at each planet in turn. I'm noticing that the process is starting to get unwieldy at 30-something planets and it will only get worse. Thanks.

Yes, a dump csv of all our planet could be nice. Maybe cost 5GP

+1
was this discussed before: months ago? one argument I recall is that it would make it to easy to mange your planets. It would give no advantage the person that spends hours doing it manually. Heck I only try to manage the first page of my 67 planets.
DAN this would be really nice.

I already do it manually, but even for update could be nice.

Definitely needed. I can't see trying to manage 200 planets the way I do now.

would be nice to have a more automated way to do it but i just highlight, copy and paste into a txt doc the whole of my planetary list. that creates tab fields and removes unwanted fields, then cut and paste the whole thing into excel. creates and easy to view list that i use color to enhance readability and even add who owns a planet that is enemy occupied. the list can then be sorted by columns using planet name, type, size, production or control.

I ended my last scan blitz with 573 planets. I can't see doing what you, milesmailman, suggest with that large of a selection. Plus, I want to know what buildings are on my planets, and who owns the enemy controlled ones. I have seen planets in my scan list change hands before, so I want current information. All this is best accomplished by a downloadable planet listing. It should include everything the list has about the planet.

Alternatively, more comprehensive filter mechanics... such as being able to only have rich or better, massive or better. Multiple search criteria... ability to search by who owns the planet, or the legion they are in... attack power, etc.

Steve you can already search planets using those criteria. For example, type massive rich gas into the planet search field and it will show you massive and very massive gas planets that are at least rich.
Still, I'd love to see a more robust interface for managing planets. As an example, there could be icons that you could see from the planet selection screen that would indicate effects on planets, like grav-whip trap.

Excel is recommended for organizing your planet stuff from copying text. If you have 2007 you can color code stuff easily using rules. Remember to visit your own planets at least once a week to get development bonus. Here is an example of working up data once you got all your planets cataloged:

Rememer. its only worth it the first 5 days, after that you get no extra bonus..

Well if you are colonizing all the time, it's worth to do it at least once a week to update any that are at full bonus.

Your example is correct, however it's only a coincidence. If you would search "abundant" you would see what I mean. The only reason rich shows everything better is because the ones better have rich in the descriptor. The same thing is true for everything else. I'd like to see <, > functionality.
