how about artifacts that either give a small energy boost (say +50 or +100) or higher recharge rate as well as temporary deck enlarger modules.
the boosters candidly would just be nice when you don't want to waste the gc/cube/trimatrix to level a little faster (tis a selfish idea but it would make the leveling easier so game would be more fun and who when you have less than say 1500 or 1000 xp to go wants to waste the points or cube as it were)
the deck enlargers could go for say... 8 or 12 hours(8 is better i think), would let you get +5 or +10 more decks temporarily to better set the ship for combat. At end of time, if stuff is equipped beyond normal deck limit, ship modules take damage across the board...

i like the idea for the +50-100 energy. that would be extremely helpful when youre almost there, but its 5am and you wanna go to sleep.
although i was skeptical of the usefullness of the extra deck space, i see how it would be useful if you were going on a scan spree or needed to equip a new reactor upon leveling.
