Dan you gave a preview of the new base system. Certain parts of it totally miss's the mark and just continues that static downward slope the game takes after a certain level.

Re: Question for Webguydan
Well, I'll reveal a *few* details

* Legion bases will involve a collaborative effort for the whole legion, involving upgrading them over time with large deposits of energy and materials.
* bases will have spaces where modules can be installed, but they will also have special slots for unique types of upgrades.
* Base PvP will be a legion vs base system. One legion at a time can 'target lock' a base, in which it will have a limited time as a group to finish the base off before the timer expires. If they manage to do this, they will be awarded with silver badges and other potential goodies. Legions will receive multipliers to their base bonuses for keeping their own base alive as long as possible. So there are incentives on both sides.
* Once a new target lock is established, the base 'resets' to full HP and shields to prepare for a new engagement with another legion. Bases will be found with a new scanning interface.

Some of the special base slots may include:
* Docking Port (increases max legion size)
* Embassy (increases max treaty amount)
* Bank (allows withdrawal of base funds)
* Repair Bay

Also, depending on how much we want to roll out in the first wave, we may decide to merge the government system with the capabilities of the bases themselves, by having players choose a base 'type'.

* bases will have spaces where modules can be installed, but they will also have special slots for unique types of upgrades......again the same, although there should be maybe something to help little legions compete.

Legions will receive multipliers to their base bonuses for keeping their own base alive as long as possible. So there are incentives on both sides.......heres where it goes horribly wrong! theres a great opportunity to have legions team up both on the attack or defense. Without multi legions working together it seems the the Dynos beat everyone and we should beat everyone else maybe catch the dynos off guard every now and then....totally boring.

It would be much more fun if suddenly NI got jumped by say, 7 or 8 smaller legions or pgl and some small guys. Then lots of planning and cooperation between legions would come into play. The whole legion system as it stands now is not much of a system at all. Since it has been introduced the only real change has been the nap or more accurately nap breaking system. I really think your missing a real dynamic here with legions combining on projects. Exotica is another example of how legions could be allowed to co op. I understand your thoughts on not wanting legions to target players together, which i feel is a mistake, and simply locks in the dominance of the top groups. I benefit more on the pro side then the con side of this arrangement but its boring. I fight the dynos because its much more fun if its a challenge, there are truly very few good overall players, pvp npc and missions and planets scanned and occupied. By limiting legions to only fighting 1 v 1 with the new bases there are not many surprises. I would strongly suggest you postpone its release and incorporate some real legion system. I used to play Star Fleet Commander and it was possible to send an invitation to members of other legions to join in on an attack. This is supposed to be a social network game yet i really only benefit from the people in my legion. So much can be done with these bases and turning them into what is very close to a planetary invasion scenario is a mistake considering the possibilities.

i dont think he ever said only one base can be locked at a time. i think itll be more like the battle tab, where the same players show up for everyone, and multiple legions can target the base at once.
