Post subject:  New ship Pic every time it increases in size class
I just thought it would be really cool if your ship picture changed in some way when you went from scout to frigate or Heavy Dreadnought to titan. It would of course have to have some relation with the original ship picture, just cooler :)

+1 I think that this would be nice, when they have the time to get around to purely cosmetic stuff like this. This is one of the better ideas to solve the problem of your ship always looking the same.

Yeah, people suggest this a lot, and it would be cool. You definitely don't see the Empire with ships 10 km long that look like TIE Fighters : P

we've proposed:

*New Pics on Size Class Change
*Customizable Avatar on Start (paint jobs)
*Customizable Avatar based on Combat Rep
*Customizable Avatar based on Mission Chain Completions and NPCs disabled (so you would harvest their pieces and be able to use them in ur avatar)
*Damaged ships that slowly gain plasma leaks, fires, debris chunks flying off, etc.

none have been implemented thusfar...

+1 I like all of those, Vekno. Customizable avatar and ship changes are both great ideas. I am not sure about the extent of customization that you are talking about, but it sounds good.

i posted a rly quick mockup of a custom ship based off the mission and npc pieces idea

pretty much customizable body, helm, wings, tail, and 3 details. we also proposed custom paint jobs for ships for some diversity

Glad you guys like my idea, I'm sure lots of other people have thought about the same thing. Hopefully they do actually implement this into the game... It shouldn't be that hard seeing that whoever makes all the pictures for the new artifacts does it pretty good and fairly often. The pictures of the current ships aren't too complex, it may still take awhile though. If anyone knows what program they use to make the current models please send me a link! I may start on my own models and mail them to the creator, I'm still rather new to this game just to say so please nothing to negative :| Thanks for the feedback.

New pictures would be a really nice idea, and it's been floated around on the forums for months. But we all know just how busy Dan is with the game, so whilst we're not getting nice things like pictures, we're getting juicy things like bases instead. I'm sure new ship images will be added in time, but Dan obviously has big plans for the future. I'm happy enough to just wait it out and see what else we get in the future. :)

Hey, Vekno, your "quick mock-up" looked great. Could you, by chance, give us a preview of what it would potentially look like for a Ship from some race, the Aerlen, for example, to go from a "Scout" to a "Light Frigate" assuming that the basic ship is a Scout.

To make the change easier, instead of a totally new design, some pieces could just be added to the current model.
Ex, Vygoid frigate is current model. At light frigate, a new drive block is added. At the next level, more of those outrigger things are added. So on, and so forth. That way, the designs are clearly recognizable, and still look cool.

thats what i was thinking too. i went to go do the aerlean upgrades, but then i realized i havent saved a pic of them yet. so now im on an aerlean hunt. :P
