I think it would be great if we could decide just who gets alerted when we push the alert button. This is especially noticeable with planet sharing, but could be seen in ship sharing in some cases. I realize it could be abused, but I fail to see how the current system isn't abused through people taking the alerts as directed towards them individually. This would also cut down on mistakes made through inability to screen communication. Also, there might be less overkill all over the place. Doubt the last part, but maybe.

As far as planet sharing goes, our legion has a policy of alerting a planet for a specific person as Help Weaken or Reserved followed by a message in the chat. We also try to wait until the recipient is online to make an immediate claim to the planet. This is one of our strictest rules and actually got an Officer demoted for claim-jumping a planet.

IMHO, alerting enemies should remain legion-wide. Legion actions against an enemy should be a team sport. If the situation warrants an alert, it should warrant the entire legion's attention. If a players ship is not strong enough to do anything, they should be able to realize this (or at least learn it very quickly) and provide moral support (if possible/necessary in the form of artifacts/repairs) to the more capable ships.
