 CT Lab Toys too expensive.

My legion just unlocked the Planetary Data Center in the CT Lab. In addition to some positrons (who cares) and 30 Grid Consols (a bit of a strain since they aren't dropped like candy by every Crimson Hawk, but anyway), it requires 25 Alien Data Discs. That's 17,500 research points for a structure that gives 2 research. My best planet, an 8x Mega, gives 12 research per structure point. If I install one of these useless Data Centers, it will take 61 DAYS just to recoop my losses. 61 Days on an 8x Mega? Are you insane? Even on a 48x it would take more than a week and if you have a 48x you don't need a Planetary Data Center.

Be realistic Dan. The people who need this can't spare the research that much. I don't need it. My research is almost 4600. To me 17,500 is 4 hours. But the pay off isn't worth it. It's a joke. I'd rather use the discs now that invest them to make a tiny profit later... in 60 days my research had better be in the 8000 range, and it will be, no thanks to the Planetary Data Center. All the CT Lab toys seem to suffer from ridiculous over inflation. simply ridiculous. Except maybe the Thermo. That might be worth it. But seriously, even that. Aside from the lack of a limit on how many you can get, how is a Demon World or a Plasma World any better than a Gaia or a Crystal or an Irradiated, and they don't take nearly that kind of outlay.

Most of the other creations are worth it, because they use a bunch of artifacts of which most people get too many. Remember that this is meant to be for higher levels. However, I agree that this one isn't worth it, because it uses too many of an artifact that gives the same thing.

Many of them are ok if you are already on planning on using it. One or two are hard. to think of as that useful. But there are planety in the lab that scream useful and being worth the cost.

Dan he makes a really good mathematical point.
You might want to re-run the numbers and change it somehow.

I would agree on this. Even on the mission dyson, the best research planet most players might have, it takes 13 days to get back the research you use making it assuming you put the building into an empty space. However, much more likely you will be replacing a building that gives less research to install this. If you replace an exotic lab with one of these on your mission dyson it will take 18 days to get back the research you spent making it.

If you cut the cost down to 12 alien data discs it would still take 15 days on a 3x mega rich non-gas with an empty space. I doubt many people going to be installing these on many planets that take longer than that so even at half the cost you'd only see these on a tiny fraction of the colonized planets.

I think the other way to look at it is after you recoop your research you will get more more research.. its a good investment if you put it on a mission dyson which is almost the most protected planet you have. If you put it on any other planet then its not really worth it.

Sure, but for everything that's done to keep older players interested, we seriously need to make an effort to get and keep new players. The game will die without a steady stream of newbies who are willing to stick it out to get into triple digits. And things that make it easier for experienced players to pull ever further away from the newbs kill that. We need things in the game that allow the newbs to catch up to us.

As for recooping the research investment? Even on the Mission Dyson it takes more than a month to realize 100% profits. It's just too little for the outlay. anyone who can afford to build this as it is right now won't even notice the tiny bump in their research pool. I'd barely notice a 12pt bump and there are players who make in an hour enough research to fill my pool to capacity.

We also need things to give people a reason to get more powerful, and these creations are one such thing. Sure, we do need some things for new people, but we also need things for high levels and this is one of them.

The DM79 Datacenter is not a reason to get more powerful. Those who have access to it are going to build a max of 2. Probably only one or none depending on their planet situation. They aren't very good on gas planets and most people have probably been upgrading their very massive gas planets to be their best research planets so you can ignore those. That leaves maybe 4 or 5 planets to put these on even for the top ranked players. It's the same situation as the Aegis Capacitor math being wrong. The Aegis would eventually have provided more shields with its percentage bonus than it cost to make it when it only gave 100 shield ... months from now for the top players. It got a boost. So should this.

I very specifically said I agreed that that particular structure's price is too high, and was talking about the other creations. Please thoroughly read posts before replying.
