if i recall correctly we had some hackers in here a while ago upset that they couldnt help with NPCs. either their guns were too weak or their hull too thin, but they couldnt put the damage in to assist. I propose a new method for combating Elite NPCs. under the actions tab there would be a 'Hack' button, just like on a players action tab. It would cost 5 energy and you have the chance to cause an effect or get a NEW blueprint item that would help hackers construct better cloak/scan mods.

For Effects:
Common Effects 1/5 (20%) chance to get
*-100 shield (would count towards their damage done)
*-2% defense
*-2% attack
*Disable Effects for 5 minutes

Uncommon Effects 1/10 (10%) chance to get
*-5% defense
*-5% attack
*Disable Effects for 15 minutes

Rare Effects 1/25 (4%) chance to get
*-1000 shield (would count towards their damage done)
*-10% defense
*-10% attack
*Disable Effects for 30 minutes

Extremely Rare 1/50 (2%) chance to get
*Disable Effects for 60 minutes
*-10000 shield (would count towards their damage done)
*Gain Research (amount would vary according to rank. i was thinking 25% of total amount able to be gathered)

Ultrarare 1/100 (1%) chance to get
*Find Blueprint Module (can be one or more for each elite NPC, once obtained it would allow players to spend minerals and complex tech to construct the module.)
*Find Blueprint Building

hacking would be allowed once every 15 minutes, but time manipulators reset the timer.

Yeah, it would be cool if hacking could be involved in NPS fighting.

Hacking an enemy planet from an NPC would make no sense at all, it would completely defeat the purpose of hacking players for their planets, as everyone would just go nuts hacking away at NPC's which offer no form of retaliation for the hack at all.

+1 for the idea though, the only thing I'm iffy about is the blueprints, since only dedicated hackers would really have a chance at getting them.

i would love to be able to hack planets out of an NPC, but unfortunately, i think there would have to be NPC controlled planets first.

That's like saying because you can get modules from NPCs you shouldn't PvP. Why not have both? Also, where's the retaliation for killing tons of NPCs? It's not like they can Alert you to their legion. Also, make it rarer then it is for hacking a PC. Problem solved.

That's not even close to the same thing. "Enemy planet" assumes that it's a player controlled planet, and you're saying that you would like to be able to hack that from an NPC, meaning you don't have to worry about hacking players anymore (or worry about getting alerted on by them). An unoccupied planet, similar to those available from missions, I can see possibly happening, but not one controlled by another player.

The retaliation from killing tons of NPCs is the damage that they deal back to your ship while in combat. Since a hack does not initiate a battle, there is no NPC retaliation for hacking them, unless hack traps were to be implemented on NPCs.

OH good idea. hacking specific abilities for NPCs. like, maybe it counterhacks you and drops your shield down to 0%, or cuts your cloak by 50%, or firewalls itself boosting its scan by 5000. definitly some interesting possibilities there.

No, that's not at all what I'm saying. I'm saying hack the NPC and get a planet location that their faction inhabits. Another "boss", if you will, only accessible through the hacking of an NPC.

as a hacker i love this idea, i always feel bad as a leader when a new npc pops up and i cant do anything to it due to my low attack/defense, the joke in my legion is i turn on the flight of the bumblebee on when i attack an npc lol. DAN CAN YOU PLEASE INPUT THIS!?!?!? as it is expensive to switch to a battle mode to take out one boss
