I've been thinking about this for a while and came up with some idea of how this could work

Basically an Auction House allows you to sell unwanted items/modules to another player, both the seller and buyer are anonymous throughout, even after the auction is over.

all weapons/sensors/cloaks/cores etc that you can normally 'Buy' are regarded as 'common' equipment.

items you get from NPC drops are considered 'Uncommon'

Artifacts from Missions that can only be completed once before they finish ( I.E the mission that gives you Mass Surface Melters ) are to be considered 'Rare'

there can be a time limit on how long you'll want the item up for auction, up to a maximum of 24 hours.

4 Hours
8 Hours
12 Hours
24 Hours

each time slot has an increasing price which should be 10% of the item you are auctioning

EXAMPLE

Dark Energy Core MK 3 costs 114,000,000 ( not including Minerals )

4 Hours 11,400,000
8 Hours 22,800,000
12 Hours 34,200,000
24 Hours 45,600,000

If the item doesn't sell, you get it back Minus the Auction fee you paid to place it in auction, depending on the time you selected for it to be there.

every item has a 'Base Credits Value' ( BCV ) which is 50 % of its shop value if sold.

Equipment that has Minerals needed to make will be different,

the item itself will still have it's BCV , but the minerals used to buy it will be 20% of their value
the costs are then added together to give a new BCV for the item in question

during the auction, to 'outbid' the highest bidder, you need to increase the bid by 5% or more.

at the end of the auction, the winner gets the item in question and the seller gets his credits.

When you place a bid, the credits you have placed are 'Locked' until the auction is over, or you are out bid'

sub notes.

Common Items can only go as far as 25% more than the BCV and the seller gets 100% of the Credits bid for the item

EXAMPLE

Dark Energy Core MK 3 costs 114,000,000 + minerals at 20% value ( 10,794,454 ) = 124,794,454

+ 25% ( 31,198,613) = 155,993,067 - this is what the seller receives. any other bid past this figure will be lost.

Uncommon Items are the Same except the Auction House Keeps 10% of the winning Bid( and everything past the extra 25%), the rest is passed onto the Seller

Example-

Dark Energy Core MK 3 costs 114,000,000 + minerals at 20% value ( 10,794,454 ) = 124,794,454

+ 25% ( 31,198,613) = 155,993,067 - this is what the seller receives. any other bid passed this figure will be lost.

Lets say the final bid was 187,678,245 the auction house keeps 31,685,178 as that is passed the 25% mark bringing the figure back down to 155,993,067, the auction house then takes 10% of this ( 15,599,306 ) giving a total of 140,393,761, which is what the seller receives for the item

RARE ITEMS

these are of exception, they can go up as far as twice their BCV, however the Auction House keeps 30% of the winning bid and everything passed double the items' BCV

I shouldn't need to provide an example here, as from above you should be able to see the process by which this goes ;)

reasons why i thought of this, as while browsing the forums i come across many threads that are either selling tech parts for Credits/TM/EM etc or planets for credits and a multitude of other items

Im open to changes to this and other alternate ideas to improve it, let me know what you think and please give 'constructive criticism' none of this 'that's a stupid idea' crap :)

EDIT- forgot to note that artifacts pulled from arti shipments are/should also be considered 'common' in the sense that you can never run out of artifact points

+1, but mainly because I believe we should have a place to auction off our artifacts, modules, and planets. Maybe you can find a way to auction off planets as well.

+1 , Reminds me of playing Forza on Xbox you could put your car up for auction for X amount of time at the end you could either accept the ending bid or decline it.

only issue here is we at GL like to barter with more than just credits , in an auction sense you mayy have to settle for accepting credits for that planet flux.

I like the idea of an auction house, but i'm not sure I like the idea of allowing people to buy NPC modules. Part of the challenge of the game is finding these modules in the first place. If you can just buy them, then the game loses part of its' challenge.

An auction house to sell standard modules and planets would be a very useful addition to the game though. +1 from me.

so level-restrict the sale of such modules to anyone at least... say.... 100 levels over the alert level for the npc that dropped it...

....and make certain artifacts non-auctionable

I agree with matress.... no selling NPC stuff if you don't put it on your ship, scrap it in the traditional way. their supposed to be *Special*, not purchased.

its nice to have some positive feed back on this. :)

taking into account all that has been suggested, removing NPC drops seems much more of a logical approach as, like Mattress said

which is true, if you can buy them, then you never need to PvE.

also another good idea came from Lone.Lycan

as for a planet Auction house, that seems like a good idea as well, though depending on the planets size and richness, that should determine what the opening bid is and go from there,

Mission planets should not be able to be auctioned either.

i suppose upon a successful bid on a planet, the new owner of the planet has it automatically fluxed from everyone's data-base, or has invasion immunity on said planet for 7 days, as it will be rather unpleasant should you win the planet and have it taken from you 10 minutes after the auction ends.

I like this idea, mostly for standard artifacts that can be gifted/traded already and planets.

You used a Dark Energy Core as an example in the OP. Would this Auction House bypass research required to earn that technology? If so, I can see major unbalancing problems involving low levels with high level friends. If not, what's the point of buying an "as is" module for what may end up being more than the cost of a brand new one?

Not being negative on the idea, just mentioning some things that should be considered....

that's a good point.

what if you could still buy it but are not able to equip it until the prerequisite has been met? in this case, the tier in which it comes available?

i used to play another game online ( who's name eludes me ) that did something similar to this. you could buy your weapon but could not equip it until you reached a certain level.

as for it being more than the cost of a new one, don't forget that the minerals used for the modules are only considered 20% of their value which i mentioned in the OP, plus that's part of the fun of an auction, you 'could' get it cheaper or you might not

With the higher tiers of modules which start involving Kurenite and start to cost in the 80Mill+ the buyer does start to seriously save some credits and at the same time the seller also stands a good chance to get a profit from this, should the bidding go past the modules' BCV

i Know this Idea has many flaws atm but im trying my best to weed out the inconsistencies and holes it has and with all you pointing these out, i can hopefully make this look promising.

thank you all for your feedback :)

I dont really see a need to have base modules auctioned, from the sounds of it the seller is gambling to gain a slight credit increase on his used module, but any smart buyer would stop bidding on the said item once it reached the point of breaking even, so the seller would never end up profiting anything.

I do like the idea for selling planets as well as artifacts though, but i would personally rather see it on an offer system or barter system. I for one would rather get something else in exchange than just credits all the time. We make numerous trades in my legion with other legions for tech parts ex. matter and its not always a credits swap.

Implementing a barter system would be really nice though allowing you to sell your planets/artifacts for exotic matter/tech parts/ or credits or even say trading this extra research planet for a mining or artifact planet you needed instead.

Just my 2 cents

that's an interesting alternative. :)

ok i'm thinking of scrapping the idea for modules being sold and focusing solely on a planet auction Theme.

what if there is a new tab where you can place Planets on a market and have people bid on them with either Creds, EM, TP etc and have an opening bid of a selected Form of those 'currency'. though maybe limit this to 'Unoccupied Planets' for now

this will allow people who have poor planets a chance to sell off those small yet Very rich planets to someone else who is in need of a certain income, the new owner may then attempt to sell this at a higher price in the hopes of turning a profit, or keep it.

this would be interesting if someone has a Natural Dyson ( or Gaia ) in their scans that they are considering of selling ( not sure why they would though ) and make an enormous amount of Creds, EM, or TP,

once the bidding is over, the scan rights pass over to the winner and the original owner has it automatically purged from their data base and the new owner has it immune to being scanned again for 48 hours.

-1 I just don't like the idea of an AH in this game. I would stay very happy if this had as little as possible in common with primary MMO's lol. There are ways to market things, I think legion trade options would be cool, or legion resource pools or maybe even market place adjustments [Think like wall street] where your mineral points would be like stock investments not actual minerals. I just do not like the idea of an AH because if you play primary MMO's you know that everything will be over priced or undercut, and undercut, and undercut.

Coming back to this thread I remembered something I had thought of the first time I'd read it.

I think I'd prefer the type of auction house where you set a price when you put an item up and if anyone wants to buy it, they can. No bidding, just a single price, set by the person putting the item up on the auction.

I'd like to be able to sell artifacts for artifacts like say 1 mass storage pod for 2 rescued prisoners. I'd also sell them for xcharges duranium brackets androids would also sell ship-bots I have no need for what I have. I'd like to be able to post things like this and just have a small list of what people can bid on it with. From mineral points to artifact points research, planets or artifacts.
