Post subject:  weapon caps

some low level guys in my legion have been alerting ships latley with weapons that rival oponents 2-3 times their rank...
this got me thinking: why is their no research tier cap on weapons??

technicaly a level 20 could have gravitons, and i just wondered if people think weapons should have restrictions to the ships they can be installed on?? similar to how base modules cant be superior to the base level.

opinions?? be brutal!!! =_= I CAN TAKE IT

I like his idea and have always thought ships themselves should be caped not lv.

A scout should only be aloud so much space and crew.

I understand you would have to grandfathered others in that currently have too much, but it just forces them to upgrade there ship.

I am working on a post that I am going to put up later on ships in general.

Research still caps you on what you can equip, if you research Attack and Defense exclusively then you're missing out on other research techs, like Construction or Power Systems.

Ship size puts a cap on what you can have installed as well, the lower ranked you are, the less decks you will have, making it more difficult to equip items that require a lot of deck space, such as Heavy Thetacron Cannons, which require 51 space for one. Upkeep will be another problem, the higher end modules require a significant amount of upkeep, and a lower ranked ship just isn't going to be able to make upkeep consistently to pay for all the modules.

I noticed this too, it's the generation of slow rankers.
StrmAvenger (a good friend of mine who I mention often) got shearers at 39, going to have disruptors by 50 and quantum disassemblers by 65! (or at least, that is his plan) Based on this, Antiprotons for 90, Nulls for 110, Thetracons for 130 and Quasis for 150! No way he's gunna manage that... but that is why he is trying to do...

funky is right. theres no way a rank 150 can afford a whole set of End game weapons. upkeep for full set of Heavy Quasi-Chaotic Blaster is at 4billion++ per day. even if he or she manages to do the research.. the deckspace needed would be a probem.. and if the deckspace is resolved the next problem would be mineral/hour. at rank 150 players dont get aidonium in their mineral shipments.. so its quite an impossible feat if he/she can manage a fulll complement of 8 Heavy Quasi-Chaotic Blaster.

Right now I believe he runs 2 - 5 hulls, 1 defense.

When you were rank 40 did you run 8 cannon? No. You probably ran 2, 1 defense, 3 hulls, 2/3 reactors, no cloak, no scan.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I did have a full compliment of 8 cannons at rank 40, they may not have been shearers, but it's always been my goal to have all 8 researchable cannons installed. I will admit that other areas suffered as a result, such as energy and defense (at first) and scanning/cloak. I still don't run much scanning/cloak as it is right now, unless I go on a scanning blitz.

What did you use? Mass drivers?? Light cruiser is 200 decks, so assuming he has 200 decks he could run 8 light shearers. Be a bit stupid though... although he would have more attack than me and I'm double his rank.

(My attack: 686)
(8 shearers: 704)

The damage cap would come into play here.

At that point I think I was either at plasma or phase cannons, I don't remember though, it was almost a year ago now that I was that rank.

I'm fairly high lvl and I don't have the biggest guns to costly for little bonus can I afford they yea want them no.
